As I was surveying the details on the DVD case for this intriguing looking film I noticed the 'credit' to the Playboy Channel and 'adjusted my expectations' accordingly!

Set in Victorian times this is a, somewhat improbable, tale of a nobleman 'rescuing' what he initially perceives to be a young lad from the highway and taking him home - only to discover (during a 'discipline' session) that the individual is in fact a girl! - whereupon he slowly develops a romantic relationship with her - ultimately culminating in marriage.

Whereas the description for this film makes it sound like a potential tour de force of themes of domination and submission - in fact those elements are not really in the forefront of the plot and feature only in a few scattered scenes. The D/S quotient is essentially represented by 3 episodes which feature bare bottom thrashing - 2 involve the principal heroine of the story being chastized by her 'master/lover' for 'bad behavior', and the third is presented within the context of a visit to a brothel where various 'tableux vivant' are performed for the amusement of the visiting patrons. This 'tableux' pictures a scenario purportedly set in a Czarist Russian prison where a naked female 'dissident' is whipped while chained to a wall. None of them are particularly explicit or titllating - if such may be what the potential viewer is primarily interested in.

What this film DOES offer are some pretty decent production values - as a beautiful old manor was apparently utilized as a location - and a pair of very attractive actresses who are not afraid to shed their clothes and engage in, well lit, simulated sex scenes. The acting is passable, if a bit lack-lustre, and the various scenarios of Victorian Age sex are interesting and visually sumptuous.

A fantasy from start to finish, perhaps not as believable as some but engaging never the less! There's pleasure, pain and voyeurism to add to the very young looking Sophie Favier's body and the gorgeous curves of Jennifer Inch. Lucky, lucky Christopher Pearson!

Man who owns manor meets a young boy along the road. Guy has plucked eyebrows, long lashes, full lips and a bubble butt. OMG! It's really a girl! Didn't see that coming! Guy makes "him" his girlfriend and also has one in London. Get flashback of girl's life at a brothel for more sex and nudity scenes.

Full frontal nudity of Jennifer Inch would be the only real reason to watch this film. About as much as a romance as "The Story of O." Yeah, there's some there, but I can't imagine that is why one would watch it. 3 stars for Inch parading around in birthday suit.

The film is based on the now largely forgotten genre of Victorian erotica, where fantastic yarns are mixed with sex. In this case, an aristocrat called Charles Beaumont finds a girl who has escaped from a brothel by wearing boy's clothing. He takes "him" in and calls him Frank. Frank finds the master's collection of erotica. The master canes Frank "on the bare bottom" and thus discovers that Frank is a girl. In between having an affair with an old flame called Maud, Beaumont also falls in love with Frank, now renamed Frances. He returns to the brothel and gives the madame a caning. And that is about it as far as the plot is concerned.

The film has variable standards of acting. Jennifer Inch sports a pudding bowl wig to play an unconvincing Frank. Her acting is wooden. Christopher Pearson is a plausible Beaumont, and Sophie Favier is the real star in her small part as Maud. Both leading actresses do explicit nude scenes, which is one of film's few redeeming features. The caning scene is also explicit and quite long, which will appeal to those who like that sort of thing. Favier became very successful in France and tried unsuccessfully to stop this film's distribution.

It is all well shot, but there is a feeling that it was a lot of effort for what was not really a story with any plot, but just an aimless yarn. The original Victorian theme of submission and domination is touched on in only one short scene. The whole film is packaged with stock shots of riding in a taxi, travelling the world and similar travelogue.
