Having just purchased this CD on a whim, having had no experience of this young American conductor or the orchestra, I hoped that the reputation of Harmonia Mundi would be upheld. I'm very glad to say that my risk has been amply rewarded.

Somtimes Brahms can be a bit, well, turgid, and I have found it harder to get to know his music than, say, Mahler or Schumann. Nagano and the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin have produced a clean, attractive, version of Brahms' Symphony 4 that I like very much indeed. The Schoenberg (a favourite composer of mine) is excellent, too. The two composers fit together very well as a listening experience. The sound quality is exemplary, albeit recorded at a low level.

All in all, this is a truly great CD and I recommend it to all Brahms sceptics!
