Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review:

In a nutshell:
It’s the game football fans wait all year for and to usher in the next generation EA Sports have given FIFA its biggest revamp in years, changing not just the way it looks but the way it plays in what aims to be the ultimate marriage of realism and fun.

The lowdown:
Every new FIFA game gets its expected improvements in graphics and presentation but this year the success of Pro Evolution Soccer seems to have driven EA to concentrate just as much on the gameplay. As such the game features better passing, crossing and free kicks as well as greatly improved goalkeepers. There’s also a new "finesse" shot if you get the time and space to use it, while every kick is calculated in terms of space, composure and technique so that it’s accuracy is determined by exactly what’s happening on the pitch and not just some random factor. Add in completely new ball physics, more than 510 teams, 27 leagues, 4,000 licensed players and all new international crowd reactions and you’ve got EA’s most concerted attempt yet to make the definitive football game.

Most exciting moment:
As well as all the individual improvements to ball and player control many of the game’s best strikers have their own signatures moves and free kicks, such as Ronaldinho, Frank Lampard and Roberto Carlos. This includes the ability to, quite literally, bend it like Beckham.

Since you ask:
As befits its global reach FIFA 07 has perhaps the most multinational soundtrack ever in video games, with everything from Argentinean rock band Bersuit Vergarabat to Spain’s The Pinker Tones and German group d.o.c.h.! (As well as Britbands such as Muse and The Young Punx.)

The bottom line:
FIFA gets serious in its attempt to out-football Pro Evolution Soccer

Manufacturer's Description

From the first whistle, FIFA 07 throws you into the rollercoaster ride of a football season and the intense stadium atmosphere of every home and away match.

Relish every satisfying victory over bitter rivals and live through every gut-wrenching poor performance at home. Savour the spine-tingling stadium atmosphere, home and away, as your team battles their way up the league table. Listen as your supporters chant your players' names and bellow all the rousing club songs through rain and shine.

New intelligent AI ensures that your 11 men on the pitch make realistic decisions, finding space and passing like professionals. A complete overhaul of the game engine now means that you have to employ real world tactics, make realistic decisions and think like a player to win matches.

Take on the updated and improved challenge of the Manager Mode. Player values and wages have been tuned to be even more realistic. Managerial decisions have even more tangible effects on player performance and welfare. Smarter CPU decisions mean rival managers are even more strategic in their own pursuit of silverware.

This is the season where you make the difference!

3.0 out of 5 stars One step forward but also one step back, 2 Oct 2006

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
The day that I bought FIFA 06 I posted a review on Amazon pointing out that whilst the game is pretty good, the graphics were disapointing and the fatigue/stamina bar ran out too quickly making some games a slow and boring affair.

You'll be pleased to know that in FIFA 07 the stamina bar is much improved and your players won't be gasping for breath after running half the length of the pitch. You'll also be pleased to know that gameplay is also excellent and more enjoyable than 06. Unfortunatley EA have somehow managed to take a step backwards in the graphics departmen. Whilst their console and PC versions of FIFA feature gorgeous graphics and lookalike players, DS owners will have to cope with blocky and shoddily designed stadia where fans look like a selection of lolly-sticks painted in the team colours. It truly is awful to the extent that at one point I had to ask myself "Is that a tree or part of the stadium?"

Graphics on the pitch aren't much better. Players still manage to look 'shiny' (see my FIFA 06 review) and slighly blocky and although kits are a little more recognisable that 06's it still isn't up to par. Sometimes the pitch will flicker too.

Gameplay wise the game is good, though sometimes you'll find yourself fighting the A.I when switching over to, say, a defender who is running back to cover his man. This makes it hard to control players sometimes and can be frustrating. The games difficulty levels vary from unbelievably easy to the point of winning each game 15-0 at the lowest setting to being very challenging on the highest. It is all still a little bit too easy for my liking though.

The touch screen runs and the option to record your own crowd chants are a nice, asthetic touch but it doesn't make up for the other flaws in this game like the poor sounds (why do we hear Italian crowd chants during a Premiership game??)that stop and start like someone is switching them on and off as opposed to the waves and flow of sound at real stadia.

EA also need to pay attention to their lazy player database with Van Nistlerooy still being a Manchester United player and Carrick still at Spurs being two glaring flaws that I spotted.

Once again this isn't a bad game. It just smacks of EA cashing in on the console playing public by putting their name and brand (usually associated with their very good console games) on a shoddy and second rate portable title.

Not bad but could do much, much better. Come on EA!
