With a strong development strategy in place and an abundance of determination and excellent musicianship, I|AM|THE|DOOR have grown in every way. The intensive work they have undertaken in the last year has produced a band that can stand up to anything thrown at them. And their commitment to their art argues a continual and infinite maturing in both style and depth, whipping up a storm in the name of musical progress. From ballads to punk anthems, the band refuses self-imposed boundaries.
Attempts at that terrible human affliction of pigeon-holing have led to I|AM|THE|DOOR being given various labels, most of which include the words punk and emo. However, on listening to their ever-expanding catalogue of music, it is apparent that there is a lot more to this band than labels. Each member brings to the band a musical perspective of his own, and they combine to create a perfect fusion of the elements of punk, jazz, dance, metal, rock and pop.
This record was recorded over the course of 2 years, and displays the variation and depth to I|AM|THE|DOORs unique sound.
About the Artist
|AM|THE|DOOR may be a biblical phrase found in the Gospel of St. John (Chapter 10, to be exact, in which it is explained that a flock of sheep follows its shepherd because it knows his voice), but it is also the name used by a Bristol-based band. It must be said that the ONLY religious connection lies in the idea inherent in this choice of band name.
The band was formed in the summer of 2003 by Bristol University students Justin Percival (vocals) and Henry Bellairs (guitar) following personal tragedies involving the loss of close family members.Soon after, the line-up was completed by the addition of Justins younger brother, Alex Percival, on drums and fellow Bristol University student, bassist George Laycock.
Music was to become integral to their expression of the human experience, be it grief or love or aspiration. There was, and remains, no set boundaries to their style. They never set out to sound like anyone in particular, though obviously draw on familiar and diverse influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to The Clash, with U2 somewhere in the middle.

With a strong development strategy in place and an abundance of determination and excellent musicianship, I|AM|THE|DOOR began to grow in every way.The intensive work they have undertaken in the last year has produced a band that can stand up to anything thrown at them. And their commitment to their art augurs a continual and infinite maturing in both style and depth, whipping up a storm in the name of musical progress. From ballads to punk anthems, the band refuses self-imposed boundaries.
Each member has his own distinct stage persona. Each is an exceptionally talented musician in his own right, and together they clearly blend to form a unique sound. The sublime effects of Henry Bellairs guitar breeze over a solid and equally sublime musical landscape created by George Laycocks bass and keyboards, and Alex Percivals complex drumming. The vocals add an altogether edgy yet fragile passion to the music, defining and refining the unique sound.Justin Percivals vocal performance style is as physical in recording as it is on stage. The intensity of their live performances leaves a lasting impression on those who have witnessed it.
A storm of change is brewing; a new voice is emerging and the flocks will know it as I|AM|THE|DOOR.
