From the Label

The 2 DVD and 2 CD package features an exclusive new documentary covering Tovey's life and career up to his untimely death in 2002. It will also include rare and unreleased tracks and live footage of legendary performances, as well as classic songs recorded both under his own name and his alter ego, Fad Gadget. Put together by Frank's family in conjunction with Mute, utilising the Mute and family archives, this collection features the very first Fad Gadget demos and footage of the rebirthed Fad Gadget supporting Depeche Mode in 2001. Fad Gadget, who alongside Human League, Cabaret Voltaire and The Normal, was at the forefront of the Electronic Movement of the late 70s/early 80s. The first signing to the Mute label, Fad Gadget released his debut single, the ground breaking, 'Back To Nature' in October 1979. Recorded using a drum machine and synthesiser a string of classic singles followed including 'Ricky’s Hand’, 'Fireside Favourite’ and ‘Collapsing New People’. A truly unique artist his live shows were legendary and quickly established Fad Gadget as one of the most exciting acts of the time. After four critically acclaimed albums as Fad Gadget, Tovey dropped the moniker and recorded a further five albums for Mute under his own name and with the Pyros throughout the ‘80s and early ‘90s. He continued to experiment with many different styles, mixing electronics with Rock, Punk, Folk and Dance Music. 4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant but beware, 28 Nov 2006

First class production by Mute records. With their greatest artist, who died, leaving a great legacy of music and performance back in 2001. Frank Tovey (Fad Gadget) was a leading light of the 80's electronic movement that still has influence today.
Why the comment of beware . . well, make sure your dvd/tv can play the DVD's as they are in NTSC format not PAL.

5.0 out of 5 stars No tacky badge required..., 25 Sep 2006
BUT, I didn't buy the box set for a badge, I bought it for the wonderful entertainment it promises. Listened to the cds at work last night. What a great collection! Worth it for the demos alone! (and it is nice to hear some of the Pyros tracks remastered)

Can hardly wait to dig into the dvds. First I'll have to clear five hours.

I don't know if more love was ever put into any collection before. This set is truly a testament for a great man and his vision! Frank would surely have blushed over all the attention given to him.

Mute Records as we know it would not exist if it weren't for Frank Tovey.

5.0 out of 5 stars at last justice is done !, 29 Mar 2009
for anyone that was touched by the music or the shaving foam, pubes or bits of drill of fad gadget / frank tovey this is worth every penny . i have the four albums and i dont think the label could have chucked them out in much more of a basic way . This, however, is something else altogether!key tracks have been remastered and nigh on blow your speakers off see lady shave, coitus interuptus, the box, collapsing new people and the track that blew my mind in 1979 does it gain here and that's Back to Nature. along with some magical moments of frank tovey's post fad stuff like the best version of sam hall i've heard and the powerful chasing the blues away . The late Tovey's family have been let loose with this and thank god they have the documentary is fascinating start to finish as is max decharnes' film Grand Union . so let me get this right two whole albums of re masterd killer tracks AND two dvd's !! oh for heavens sake buy this ..hopefully the original albums will get a proper make over ..one day ! five stars to BJ & the Tovey Frosts im so glad someone did this !! excellent !
