A long awaited re-release from 1988. This contains some great nuggets including early TV appearances, a Black Magic medley, a thunderstorm and moving footage from the former Soviet Union. Carlos reminisces in his inimitable way over some of the tracks which could distract some viewers at first but really his enormous warmth and charm shine through the whole disc and the music is out of this world. This is an excellent companion to the "Viva! Santana" CD set.

Some great archive footage of early Santana with the original line up is marred by the frequent Carlos Santana voice overs - when you can hear what he's mumbling about you are forced to move on. Maybe Gregg Rolie got is just right taking his Journey around 1973 before Carlos went for his full Devadip with Sri Chimnoy.

Disappointment is a woefully inadequate word for this disc. I bought it, selected my favourite track - Europa - and it was ruined by the voiceover which YOU CANNOT TURN OFF. Just to satisfy curiosity, I selected Samba Pa Ti and it didn't take long for that to be ruined the same way. I couldn't face playing the rest of the disc.

Talking over 'Soul Sacrifice' is an absolute travesty.

Overall, this DVD is okay, with bits of interest.

But not as good as it might be.
