This is a cut above your average saucy seventies sex romp. It is competently directed by Martin (Casino Royale) Campbell and has a rather good cast including David Warbeck, star of Lucio Fulci's 'The Beyond' and many other Italian horror films and action movies, and the delectable Diane Keen, best known for the 70s' sit-com The Cuckoo Waltz and a series of coffee adverts.

The story consists of an unsuccessful writer (Warbeck) who moonlights as a jewel thief, preying on attractive, lonely women. Their jewellery is not the only goodies he likes to get his hands on though and his victims are often more than willing to succumb to his roguish charms. In one delightful sequence, almost bordering on art-house surrealism, a young lady performs a quaint yet seductive little dance routine for 'The Sex Thief', wearing only the jewellery that her intruder intends to steal, before the love action commences.

Diane Keen is the insurance company investigator trying to track down the thief and she eventually sets a trap for him, which involves her getting stark naked of course. 'Mark Of The Devil' director Michael Armstrong also appears in a small but interesting role as a boozy copper obsessed with pornography with a particular fascination for large breasts!

I really enjoyed this film and was pleasantly surprised by it. I was sort of expecting a run-of-the-mill sex comedy in the vein of the 'Confessions' films, which Britain churned out in droves during this decade, but this film is certainly a few notches above most of those films.

really great little sex movie, even has a good story line to it ,and it's funny to .
made in 1973, the film is not all PC CORRECT and is all the better for it.
the main plot revolves around David Warbeck who stars as Grant Henry , a handsome gentleman thief who breaks into wealthy woman's homes and steals all there jewels and they find him so attractive that they just have to have sex with him.
the police investigating just do not have a glue who the thief is , as each lady gives a different description of the thief . really funny.
but the best part of the film is towards the end ,when insurance investigator Dianne Keen sets a trap for the thief ,
she buys a really expensive diamond at an auction and the thief follows her home , but it's all a set up. the diamond is fake.also she has a black belt in self defence ,
so she waits , the thief breaks into her home , she throws him around the floor .best bit before she turn's him into the police she ties him up and has sex with him,for me it's worth paying £8 for the DVD just see the lovely Dianne Keen take her knickers off .

A good role for David Warbeck and a talented supporting cast plus a great soundtrack make this 1973 sex comedy quite an enjoyable experience.

No Oscars here! Just 1970s' dodginess. Loved Diane Keen and the Jensen Interceptor.

Thoroughly enjoyable film. Very cheeky. Very rude.
Lots and lots of gratuitous nudity. What more could anyone want from a seventies sex comedy.

This is a rather cut above some of the other sex comedies from the 1970's. Although now very dated, it does poses a reasonable (if unbelievable) plot line. Some of the 'acting' leaves a lot to be desired, and none of the cast would win an award. But these are the very things that make these films what they are, and most probably what we like them for. There is also a very generous helping of both female and male full frontal nudity (sometimes only in longshot) to satisfy most voyeuristic tastes. If there has to be a downside, it's that David Warbeck is most definitely not a male lead in this film. He most certainly doesn't carry the film, has no impacting screen presence and is almost always inaudible when delivering his (few) lines. That said, if you're a 70's sex comedy fan you probably won't be disappointed with The Sex Thief.
