5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful and sublime, 6 Jan 2007

(REAL NAME)
For reasons that I can only wonder at the UK release of this album has been delayed for the past four months, since it's release in the US. However for those who haven't bought it yet it's been worth waiting for. Brett Dennen is one of the greatest lyricists in contemporary music with a deep soulful resonant voice that comes streight from the heart. Anyone who loves great lyrics and wants music to have meaning as well as style should buy this album

5.0 out of 5 stars Fate favours happy feet, 6 Jun 2007
By Mark Hetherington "Hevster" (London, England) - See all my reviews

I hadn't heard of Brett Dennen until I saw him supporting Rodrigo y Gabriela at one of their recent gigs. The rather rowdy crowd in the Shepherds Bush Empire were won over that night by this gentle, witty young man with his beautiful songs and slightly strange bare foot shuffling. After forgetting his name by the end of the gig and being unable to track down the name of this great support act through RodyGab websites fate lent a hand. Whispering Bob had him guesting on Radio 2 and I was fortunate to be online and listening in that night! Ordered the album straight away from good old Amazon and I'm sat here listening to it as I type.

A really nice way with words that makes one think a little of a young Bob Dylan as the lyrics bounce and dance along through simply crafted songs. The opening track "Ain't no Reason" is a cracker and both "Darlin' Do Not Fear" and "She's Mine" will instantly make you smile and think of a certain curly haired 60's troubador before he went electric. In fact "She's Mine" may well have you singing the lyrics to 'I Want You' in the verses! Not that such a comparison is a bad thing because on the strength of this album Brett Dennen has enough of his own style and talent to be allowed to 'steal' a few references from idols such as the venerable Mr Dylan. The other stand out tune for me is "The One Who Loves You Most" for its jolly dance-around mood but depending on the colour of my socks I find each of the tracks my favourite and equally enjoyable!

Anyway, with summer slowly slouching into sight in sandals and short-sleeved shirt this album will help happy feet dance across the garden and make the sun feel warmer still. It's a great pick-me-up set of tunes in a gentle frame of mind. I sincerely hope that Brett Dennen can carry on in this rich vein and continue to give us such delightful tunes to listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars great album, 27 Jan 2007
By S. Mather "Steven Mather" (Leicester, UK) - See all my reviews

A online friend recommend Brett Dennen's first album Brett Dennen. I got it, listened to it once, and never again.. not becuase i didnt like it, becuase it got lost amongst many others around here.

I then found it again, and started listening to it, loving it.

I then got a copy of "So Much More" and its quite possibly one of the best albums of 2006! I love it so much, i could play it non-stop.. It makes you smile, and think, and relax, and enjoy music for what it is. Brett has a really nice voice and the stripped down songs all sound fantastic.

If you like "singer songwriter" stuff, but with a more upbeat feel, then this is for you.
