Product Description

Lincoln Mathers (Doug Cockle from REIGN OF FIRE) is an ambitious New York analyst trying to balance work and family life. He, along with his wife Sarah (Sara Stewart from BATMAN BEGINS and TVs SUGAR RUSH) and daughter Beth relocate to England and move into an old Victorian house in London s East End. Things appear to be going well until Sarah uncovers a buried tomb in the house s cellar, and becomes host to an ancient spirit. Local voodoo followers Ray and Ruth believe that the spirit of an African warrior from West Africa now inhabits Sarah s body. They make plans for an exorcism but when they approach Lincoln to get him involved, he refuses to listen. When he finally notices that his wife is not who she was, he is forced to accept that his family s only salvation lies in a leap of faith. They enlist the help of local historian Fiona (Trisha Mortimer from FRIGHTMARE) who is able to make Lincoln see sense and put his trust in them. In a breathtaking climax, Lincoln holds a violent and frenzied Sarah captive and struggles to make an emotional connection with a wife held hostage by a warrior s spirit. Featuring a stunning soundtrack by Steven Severin of SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES.

Synopsis

Young businessman Lincoln (Doug Cockle) moves his family from New York to London, finding out too late about some disturbing aspects of his new home. When his wife, Sarah (Sara Stewart)--something of a Luddite--discovers voodoo trappings in the basement, she begins exhibiting increasingly erratic behavior, until Lincoln is forced to admit the previously inconceivable possibility that voodoo is real.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 14 Jul 2007
Just shows how two people can watch the same movie and come away with a different opinion.
I thought this was a fantastic, suspenseful movie for those that prefer their thrills to come with a story rather than blood and guts.
The mother's performance as a woman possessed and how she changes over the course of the film is an acting masterclass. She's attractive too :)
I'd say definitely worth buying - especially if you're also an indie filmmaker as the making-of extra is well worth watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars spooky psychological Brit horror, 3 Aug 2008
By Mr. Ae Rayner "aerayner" (hampton UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

Does voodoo exist in London? There have been some bizarre killings reported in the newspapers in recent years & these would seem to be the inspiration for the director's basic premise. I approached this film out of curiosity to see if British horror films were still able to compete with Hollywood product. No worries - this is a well thought out psychological horror movie & it won 5 accolades at different film festivals for best feature, best director and the Grand Prix du Public in Luxembourg! The story revolves around a family who move into a large terraced house & almost immediately there's a hint of events to follow when a light bulb explodes the minute it's switched on! The husband is a workaholic who has little time to pay any attention to his wife and 2 year old daughter. One day wife Sarah (Sara Stewart) breaks a basic rule of horror movies by snooping about in the basement & then smashing a hole in the floor which reveals a couple of dead bodies! Bad mistake! The theory is that they could be the result of some ritual killing a few years ago. A slinky nanny called Kelly moves in & puts some moves on husband Lincoln - he's too concerned with being a workaholic to respond. Sarah, meanwhile, is undergoing a few personality changes & after some voodoo specialists have issued warnings Sarah bites Lincoln on the nose, saves some of the blood & now he finally figures something might be wrong! Husband finally agrees to a voodoo exorcism which is performed & the director uses manic MTV style editing to full effect!
Now we come to the 2nd movie for that is what the `making of' doco amounts to. It chronicles the problems that the writer/director had with finalising the script & then analyses all the processes of set construction, discussions with the director of photography etc. Obviously all the hard work & efforts of all concerned paid off as the film received all those awards. I wish director Robert Pratten all the best for his future endeavours & thank him for some excellent entertainment!
