Synopsis

Inspired by the success of Fox's teen soap THE O.C., the producers at MTV came up with this reality series about the real-life residents of Orange County, California. Like the characters in THE O.C., the teens of LAGUNA BEACH - THE REAL ORANGE COUNTY drive fancy cars and spend a great deal of their time shopping for expensive clothes. They also fret about their love lives, or lack thereof, while sunning by pools and cruising the California strip. LAGUNA BEACH does not follow the same narrative structure as THE O.C., but there's plenty of high drama; from catfights to boy drama to who's going out with whom to the prom. While the half-hour series follows the lives of six different teenagers in their last year before leaving Laguna for college, viewers will find a semi-protagonist in Lauren. An aspiring fashion designer, Lauren agonises over her relationship with Stephen, who constantly switches his attention between Lauren, and her ultimate nemesis, a junior named Kristin. While the two girls supposedly can't stand each other, shared social circles bring them together time and time again, causing loyalties to be tested, and drama to reach breaking point.

I rented this DVD through Amazon rental (works out much cheaper than buying it!). Rental is fast and efficient and would def do again. As for the DVD, I had seen the odd clip on TV and decided to start at the beginning and watch the whole thing through. Well worth it....laguna beach is horrifyingly addictive. You latch onto the characters quite quickly and you def have your favourites. If you are renting, do not bother with disc 3. The extras are really poor and the only thing decent is LC's house tour shown on MTVcribs. Dont bother! The only thing now is that is that Series 2 is not available to rent on amazon yet...and I cant bring myself to pay for the boxset!Overall, if you like american teen drama for a bit of mindless tv-watching then get laguna beach!

Well, im not entirely sure what to make of Laguna Beach because it really is way to funny to take seriously and yet i get the feeling that it is infact supposed to be an american teen drama docupic. If you are able to keep an open mind towards it and just revel in some of the glorious comic elements within i reckon it is definetly worth a look.
My favourite character is Jason by far, He seems like a cool enough guy but his womanising antics and more to the point, the fact that none of the girls appear to pick up on them are absolutely hilarious. He gives nothing away [poorly] and i dont know if its supposed to be funny or not but....well it really is. I swear the guy just drives around in his car waiting for girls to ring him!!!
I have always wanted to move to California and i guess in a sense Laguna beach does offer a realistic insight into the lives and minds of the reasonably rich suburbanised teens that populate the area closest to the beach...but for me i can only view the programme as a comedy. If you are a cynical horrible twenty something like me i would reccomend this DVD....otherwise just stick to Brasseye and Dark Place.

So i decided to buy the boxset as i hadnt see them all. its great. the LC-Stephen-kirsten love triangle was the focus of this season and all the other people and their story were background to this. My fave is LC nad LO. LO does not get enough air time. there should be a lo show. LC is someone i would like a friend. Extras are quiet good the interviews were good and to see the casting was great. so at the bargin price it is at. u should buy this
