Liszt's piano transcriptions of Beethoven's well-worn symphonies are yet another example of his undoubted genius. How such complex music could be rendered-down in such a sympathetic and attractive way is beyond me! I really do (almost) prefer the Liszt transcriptions to the orignal orchestral versions.

Scherbakov is highly gifted and, yet again in this series within a series, pulls out all the stops. Great recorded sound is the icing on the cake.

Do try this Naxos CD, you won't be disappointed.
