Anyone familiar with Sonic Youth will know that many of their songs end with a minute or two of noise with everyone just thrashing around: that's what The Dead C sound like all the time!!!

Lurking in the guitar/drums murk you can pick up the remnants of songs, words, chords. The recording quality is lo-fi, presumably out of necessity early in their career but now it just makes sense as the way their music should sound. The earlier recordings are more obviously song based, the later stuff more abstract but importantly they always instill real feel and emotion into what they do. It doesn't feel cold or like a noise exercise to me; it's often genuinely moving.

There are two long CDs and good sleeve notes.

for those looking for an overall account of their work before tracking down specifics get Vain, Erudite and Stupid.

it's an extremely good entry point into their work and gives you alot of songs that are pretty hard to get hold of.

well work the £5 it usually goes for on here, well worth double that actually
