I ordered this ladybird kit for my daughter who is 5, and obsessed by insects. I made the mistake of telling her I had ordered it.....
The kit arrived within 3 days (5 stars Amazon), with a note inside saying you could log on to brainstormltd to order the lavae. So I logged on....only to find that their website isn't up and running yet...so I rang them. Very polite lady answered the phone, and informed me that the ladybird larvae cost £6! (I was expecting there to be a voucher inside so I could just quote a reference number and get the larvae for free, or that if I had to pay, it would only be about £2.50 seeing as I had already shelled out £15 for the net basket to house them in). I duely paid the £6, and was told the ladybirds would arived with the next 2-3 WEEKS!!!!
I knew I would have to order the larvae, but I feel it should be made clear somewhere in the 'description' of the kit, that the larvae take at least 2 weeks to arrive, and that they cost £6.
My daughter has asked me every day if the kit is coming soon, and now I'm going to have to explain that whilst the ladybird 'house' is here, she's going to have to wait a bit longer for the larvae.
Once it's all up and running, I know she will love it, and of course, we'll be able to order ladybird larvae time and time again...I just wish I'd known the REAL costs, and also how long it would take before I could actually use the kit.

I gave this kit to my daughter for Christmas and received the bugs (well larvae) a few days after ordering them and they are mostly fine and growing. Some are already in the pupae stage and not moving. I think its a great idea for children to learn about nature and bugs in a safe and clean way. I think its pretty good value for the complex type of project you get.

I bought this for my five and three year old. It has been an enjoyable project. They have liked watching the development and learning about ladybirds. From my point of view it couldn't be simpler,it requires very little care. It is great for taking in for 'show and tell' at school.

You need to be aware that the ladybird eggs have to be ordered separately. This was a straightforward process. Also the hatched ladybirds were black with orange spots rather than red with black as illustrated.

We will probably ordering more eggs.
