Amazon.co.uk Review

A pre-Phantom Michael Crawford plays Woody, a goofy cartoonist-accidentally-turned-spy in this Cold War-era lark. In Paris visiting his friend, a CIA "file clerk," Woody is sent on a cloak-and-dagger errand and is mistaken for an operative by his beautiful Russian counterpart. She then contacts the agency with the demand that he, and only he, help her defect. Writer adopts comic book persona and voilà: Condorman! This wide-winged hero thwarts the pesky Soviets at every turn. From the old run-down farmer's truck he's driving emerges a flashy race car that outruns a fleet of Russian vehicles. Later, in a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang moment, the car sprouts floaters, allowing the pair to escape their pursuers by sea. Barbara Carrera's Natalia--the true spy of the two--is really just along for the ride. It's Condorman's show, as confirmed by the ending: a shot-filled showdown off the shores of Monte Carlo.-- Kimberly Heinrichs

Synopsis

Condorman is a winged creature created by a cartoonist who adopts its identity. Great special effects and crazy comedy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Memories of being 11 years old, 2 Feb 2007
By I. M. Jones (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is such a perfect film for an 11 year old boy. The adventure, comedy, action, cars, lasers, Laser Lady, explosions, animation, gadgets. I had to trawl the world for a copy on VHS (New York finally) then do the same for the DVD (......) and finally on Amazon for a fiver! Thanks Disney for finally giving it to the UK, still impossible to get in the USA. Hopefully one day we can get a spruced up, remastered version with a little of the original promotional material. I used to dream of a Condorman 2 but sadly it was not meant to be. I think this would have been a bigger hit had the lead been a big US star but Michal does a pretty good job despite the dodgy accent and the supporting cast are great. Oliver Reed is pretty scary even now! "Dasvidanya Condorman"

4.0 out of 5 stars Good film shame about the transfer, 29 Dec 2006
By Carl Hunt (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I agree with the other reviews, this is a fine family film ideally suited
to young children or those wishing to return to their youth.

However the quality of the transfer to DVD is very poor. If I had paid full price for this I would feel ripped off.
