I bought the Tempus 1XT as a bedside radio alarm clock. It was a replacement for a cheap plastic FM clock thats been waking me up for years. I eventually got fed up of the difficulties with FM radio (tuning/interference/quality) when there are better alternatives. I use my clock every morning without fail, and so while the Tempus is quite expensive, I feel that the amount I use it justified me spending an extra few pounds on a nice model.

The other model I considered was the Pure Bug Too, which has similar features and a few more besides, but I decided that it looked ridiculous and wouldn't sound as good. I think I made the right decision. I can't verify the sound quality of the Bug of course, but I'd be surprised if its as good as my Tempus. There is no hissing or background noise and music is crisp and undistorted even at loud volumes. It also feels solidly built.

The alarm clock is easy to program. It allows me to set regular weekday and weekend alarms, or one-off alarms. The alarm can be set to either a nasty beeping sound or the radio station of my choice. I like that I can set a radio station for each alarm, rather than have it be whatever the radio was last tuned to. My only complaint would be that the radio alarm tuns off after 1 hour, and that can't be changed.

I leave the clock display lit dimly at night, so I can see the time without having to touch it. You also just touch the handle to light up the clock, or to snooze the alarm in the morning. The dim setting is really not too bright to leave on at night, unlike rather scary reports of the Chronos.

Its really quite splendid. I'm very pleased.

I don't know what the previous reviewer is referring to regarding volume problems, so can't really comment.

All I can say is that I haven't had the slightest problem with the radio. I had bought the Pure Chronos, which was awful (lowest volume too LOUD, wire aerial and overbright display). The Tempus solves all of these problems, is easy to use, sounds great and in my opinion, has a superb voulme control. It's just a level above the two DAB radio's that I've previously owned.

If you want a bedside radio that has alarms and displays the time as well as looking and sounding great - then get a Tempus. Recommended.

Already owning a DAB radio for the dining room I purchased this primarily for my bedside table and the clock/alarm function. I did think twice about paying over £80 for a radio clock alarm, but I think it was well worth it. It sits beside the bed and doesn't blind me with ultra blue brightness. There are several display functions which mean you can have the clock on display, or just hit the handle during the night to display the time (which will always be accurate as it sets itself digitally). It makes no noise or residual buzz on standby. Easy to programme with separate alarms. Reception is clear and strong. I have only one tiny niggle and that is I would like to be able to adjust the tone and remove some bass as it clouds some of the clarity of classical music - but this clever little box does amazing things and I am extremely pleased with my purchase.
