Synopsis

An improvised mockumentary comedy that sees three couples attempt to win a magazine competition to find the 'Most Original Wedding of the Year'. After the wedding competition is set up by the owner of Confetti magazine - played by the comedian Jimmy Carr, three couples are chosen to compete in the finals and the film charts their progress as they attempt to win their dream marriage. Couple one--comprised of Martin Freeman (THE OFFICE) and Jessica Stevenson (SPACED)--intend to have a musical wedding. Couple two--comprised of the PEEPSHOW duo Robert Webb and Olivia Coleman--are nudists. The third couple of Stephen Mangan (GREEN WING) and Meredith MacNeill (MAN STROKE WOMAN) are obsessed with tennis. This entertaining comedy is notable for its mockumentary style and use of improvised dialogue, a device used by Christopher Guest in the films THIS IS SPINAL TAP and BEST IN SHOW. The film features appearances by several actors familiar from British comedies, such as Felicity Montagu (I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE) and Julia Davis (NIGHTY NIGHT). This frequently amusing, breezy film is a romantic comedy that manages to bring new dimensions to the genre and the use of improvised dialogue adds a freshness to it. Relying on sharp character humour, CONFETTI manages to combine its spoof documentary style and use of a traditional British romantic comedy narrative successfully.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 25 May 2006
By Brian Moroney "ttm254" (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews

'Confetti' is about a wedding magazine that organises a competition for the most innovative wedding. Three couples are chosen, each with a different theme: Matt and Samantha (Martin Freeman from the office and Jessica Stevenson from the royal family) who want musicals as their theme, Josef and Isabelle (Stephen Mangan from green wing and Meredith MacNeill) who are tennis enthusiasts, and Michael and Joanna (Robert Webb and Olivia Colman, both from peep show) who are both naturists. Filmed as a mockumentary, we follow the three couples in the three months leading up to the weddings, organised by the wedding planners Heron and Hough, who steal the show with their antics. With such a brilliant cast its no surprise that this film is outrageously funny, a definite must see!

1.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to be bored out of your skull..., 7 Jan 2009
By Lesley-anne Murray "Heads or tails." (Scotland) - See all my reviews

I bought this film because it had one of my favourite Green Wing actors in it. This film was severely disappointing. I do not usually give bad reviews but this film was truly disastrous, I felt myself falling asleep during it. It was more of a chore to watch than anything.

It is like a documentary...a boring documentary at that, I do not know what I was expecting but it definetly was not this.

1.0 out of 5 stars You look at the list of comedy names in this film and it's got to be good, 11 Sep 2008

This is bad film, even for British film, it leaves alot to be desired.

Apparently alot of the scenes were improvised, and you can tell, I didn't laugh out loud once, apart perhaps seeing Robert Webb's penis (and even he dislikes the film)

After about 45 minutes, I skipped to the end to see what happend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Humorous but not funny
This is too clever for its own good. A bit too far fetched and not enough gags to carry the reality stretch. I can barely drum up the enthusiasm to review it.
