Amazon.co.uk Review

In a nutshell:
The world’s most popular football sim returns with numerous tweaks and additions to make it even more realistic in both gameplay and graphics. If England don’t win the World Cup you can always take solace in the latest Pro Evo.

The lowdown:
This latest sequel sees one of the biggest overhauls in the game’s history with the new improvements to the already impressive animation directly affecting the way you play. Dribbling with the ball is now easier but the quality of your passing and shooting now depends on the position of a player’s body in terms of both accuracy and power. Make a shot straight after a sharp turn, for example, and your chances of hitting the target are slim. Opponent and team artificial intelligence has also been greatly increased, to the point where every man on the pitch is thinking independently. Apart from the animation, the graphics in general have also been upgraded with much better player likenesses.

Most exciting moment:
Thanks to the new changes Pro Evo 6 plays a much more attacking game than previously, with counter attacks after a fluffed shot on goal made much easier than previously.

Since you ask:
Although the game doesn’t have the official FIFA World Cup license it does simulate an unofficial international tournament, including both qualifying rounds and the finals.

The bottom line:
The best just keeps getting better with the most beautiful virtual game ever.
HARRISON DENT

Product Description

The Pro Evolution Soccer series is renowned for its realism, and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is abundant with new gameplay additions. Player AI has been massively upgraded, with players running intelligently into space when not in possession of the ball and pointing where they want the pass placed to continue the attack. Similarly, the physical side of play has been refined, with players working to turn a defender as they receive the ball, while defenders must learn to stand off slightly to prevent such moves.
Series creator Shingo `Seabass` Takatsuka has also worked to refine the shooting system of the new game, and players will be able to attempt more snap shots than in previous versions, while volleys and half-volleys have been redesigned. Other new moves include the ability to retain control of the ball when sliding in to tackle, while all-new feints and backwards dribbling are now available thanks to the improved dribbling controls, while headers have been changed to allow players more movement in the way their strikers jump and head the ball.

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 also has a number of new teams licensed for inclusion, with the International roster now featuring the official kits for Argentina, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Sweden. Details on official club teams and more national squads will follow.

Other new additions include more balanced referees, and a selection of exciting new gameplay modes. An International Challenge involves leading your home country to victory through a series of entry and tournament rounds, while a Random mode lets the player play quick games within randomly-generated match day settings. The much-loved Master League also returns, allowing players to experience the many highs and lows of steering a team through years of competitive games. Aging players, injuries and pressure from the board all combine to create a truly immersive game where results are everything.

With its slick mo

2.0 out of 5 stars A FALSE DAWN, 28 Nov 2006
By David R. Forsey (Leicestershire, UK) - See all my reviews

Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
I am an avid PES fan and I have loved the game since ISS.

I have always hated FIFA just because the gameplay was sooo poor, well I am sad to say that Konami have taken a rather large step backwards.

The game is slow and diliberate, nothing wrong with that but I am talking about the terrible framerate issues especially online which is quite frankly boardering on comical for next gen.

Lack of stadiums, awful tinny sound, no editing and a completely wayward new shooting mechanic has ruined what was once the definitive footy title.

FIFA has caught up and plays a more fluid game, they just need to twinge a few aspects that will see it take over.

As per usual a successful company has become complacent, relying on past glories to steal another £40 from your wallett.

My advice is to stay away from it and buy FIFA instead ( cannot beleive I am saying that)its more fluid, better graphics, better animation, more fun and certainly more of a completed version.

Shame on you Konami

4.0 out of 5 stars Ok but not what I was expecting, 17 Nov 2006

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I love my xbox 360, but to be honest I feel as I've been lied to. Why aren't the games any different to the old xbox, if anything they seem to have less than the old games.

I remember the last PES, you could create a masterleague and edit your teams name and kit. Now you have to keep the name and kit of a team that already exists.

Oh and where have all the special features gone, I can't buy 1960's heroes or get rainbow ball replays. You can't even save replays.

And why do the players look less realistic?

On the up side I have played it a lot and I'm getting into it. I put my game level up today and almost threw the controller at the screen, cos now through balls go the wrong way and the oposition knows what I'm doing before I do it. But it's still fun. From what I've seen and heard about FIFA I'm still pretty happy with my choice.

Buy it over FIFA but don't expect anything amazing.

Please sort out the next gen games! Last game I bought was Dead Rising, which is great unless you want to save a game...anyway 4 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly disappointed. Choose Fifa., 15 Nov 2006
By D. Payne - See all my reviews

Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
For years, ever since '95, I had been dedicated to the Fifa range. It wasn't until Pro Evo 4 that i made the switch over, and at the time I was glad. The one major thing that Pro Evo lacked was it's level of detail in the kits, but with the ability to fully edit everything, it was easily resolved.

I'd played PES6 on a friends PS2, and was amazed at the graphics, gameplay, and in game options, but I was pretty annoyed to hear that it wasn't coming out for the Xbox, so i traded in mine for a 360. Bad Move.

Although the graphics on the 360 version are great, the amount of features that are lacking disgust me. Considering the game costs the same, if not more than the PS2 version, I see it as plain descrimination that Konami have left out so many features for the 360- an apprently better console-

Features that are missing include-
- 99.9% of editing abilities (so you cannot correct Gallas' incorrect shirt number at the Arsenal). Can edit players height, and thats about it.
- Training mode is stripped down to just a free-play. No actual TRAINING available
- Eight.. (yes, eight) stadiums to choose from. Not one being british.
- No replay saving.
- Nowhere near same level of formation settings as PS2.
- Significantly less in-game cut scenes.
- No ability to check post match stats in detail.

All in all, I would suggest that anyone considering buying this game for the Xbox360, shouldn't. It is a complete waste of money. A so far impressive series of football games has taken a significant step backwards with Konami's ignorance towards the "next gen" console. I never thought i'd say this, but i'm considering part-ex'ing this for Fifa.

You have been warned..
