Product Description

Description
'Undiscovered' is the debut album from singer-songwriter sensation, James Morrison. Taking a bluesier, more soulful route than some of his contemporaries, Morrison has drawn on elements of his troubled upbringing to produce an album that has real depth emotionally and musically. 5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most exciting new artists for a long time, 12 May 2006
By Ms. D (Essex) - See all my reviews
You may recognize James's name if you happen to have seen Corinne Bailey Rae on her latest tour. It's not very often that the support act is something worth seeing, but James Morrison, for me was an exception to that rule.

With a powerful and distintive soul voice, I am counting down the days till I can own his debut album. Just finishing a residency at the Eve Club in London, I hope for very big things for James. Having heard around 10 song in the two live sets I've heard I am more than impressed. A young talented artist who writes his own songs, James is my new obsession.

Check out his website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful new British snger-songwriter, 14 Jun 2006

It may seem somewhat strange to write a review for an album not yet released, however, I was so excited when I heard 'You Give Me Something' that I was driven by some force greater than myself. I had to discover the source behind such a soulful voice. Not to detract from his originality or singularity as an artist in any way but he has raw quality to his voice, a huskiness reminiscent of the king of soul himself, Otis Redding. Perhaps he could even be compared with an early Stevie Wonder.

Other songs on the album include the title track `Undiscovered', an upbeat piano based track once again the perfect frame for Morrison's soulful vocals, `Better Man', a sensationally delicate acoustic track filled with searingly poetic lyrics and charmingly infectious melody and, `Wonderful World', a bittersweet lament about the frustrations of life superbly enhanced by his subtle undertones of optimism. A truly seductive and spellbinding debut album by all accounts. I can't wait to get my grubby little mittens on it. All this at the tender age of 21, James Morrison is definitely a talent to watch out for in the future. The perfect album to wind down and relax to on these long summer nights ahead, you'll easily get lost in the comfort of his voice, as my friend said to me after I played `Better Man' for him, it's "like being wrapped in a warm blanket on a cold winter's day".

4.0 out of 5 stars Very fine pop, 22 Jun 2006
By A. Williamson (Ireland) - See all my reviews

I have to own up to a guilty pleasure. Since I got a copy of Undiscovered I can't help donning my headphones and spinning the wheel to hear 21 year old James Morrison's voice.

You see it's not the type of album I usually like. It's got female chorus girls on backing vocals, Nashville strings, major-label muscle and marketing from a young heart-throb with a big name producer. But the kid has talent. He has an ear for a melody and a remarkable voice. Think somewhere between Ray LaMontagne, Al Green and Otis Redding but he's not trying to pastiche the American past, instead he's confronting his own fractured upbringing.

James has opted out of the manufactured route, preferring to write all his own songs, concentrate on lyrics rather than rhymes and do things the hard way. He's not a pop idol protégé, rather someone who busked every day for a year, won over uninterested audiences and flogged CDs to every A&R man he could find. His soul blues songs have maturity, an undeniable pop sensibility and the sound of someone who for the first time loves his life.
