Synopsis

Ronnie Barker, Bernard Cribbins and Richard Briers star as incompetent labourers in this comedy of errors, as they try (and fail hilariously) to build a young couple's dream home.

From The Studio

The brick-by-brick account of building a young couple's dream house. From the day when the site is first selected, to the day--several years and children later--when the couple finally move in, the story is a noisy but wordless comedy of errors as the incompetent labourers struggle to complete the house.

In this satirical look at British builders, many cups of tea are made, windows are broken and the same section of road is dug up over and over again by the water board, the electricity board, and the gas board.

Ronnie Barker's put-upon cement mixer, Peter Butterworth's short-sighted carpenter and Bernard Cribbins' dyslexic stonemason all contribute to the ensuing chaos.

Great that this is finally available on DVD. Been waiting for this for years. Apparently it gets played on German television every Christmas- why not here?? Anyway no need to worry about that anymore.
The Rice Crispies scene gets me all the time. You must see this.
Wonderful stuff, we'll miss you Ronnie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Funny Silent Comedy, 12 Sep 2006
By Jonathan Hayward (Manchester,UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A suprisingly fresh and funny comedy featurette with scores of familiar British comedy actors(Bernard Cribbins,Peter Butterworth,Richard Briers, and most memorably,Ronnie Barker)which works all the better being silent with an accompanying music score. There's a pleasant bonus with an interview with the film's producer Bob Kellett, although it is rather pointlessly filmed in black and white.Still worth buying, though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not The Picnic, 5 Mar 2008
If you are looking for a show like The Two Ronnies' "By The Sea" or "The Picnic" this is not for you. To list Ronnie Barker as the star is deceiving ... he is no more prominent than the many other actors that appear. I found the film slow, dated and unfunny. The accompanying interview went beyond being 'so bad its funny'.

Unfortunately, because the humour is so aged now, it didn't seem to be as amusing as I was hoping. It is good but so predictable!

Very funny. As funny now as when I saw it at the cinema many years ago.
