Synopsis

The complete fifth series of It Ain't Half Hot Mum, the BBC comedy which centres on the escapades of a Royal Artillery Concert Party in India. Episodes include: "Front Line Entertainers", "Bridge Over The River Hipong", "The Pay-Off", "Puddings From Heaven", "The Superstar" and "The Eternal Quadrangle".


From the studio

The Royal Artillery Concert Party are still entertaining the British troops in India during the Second World War. The Colonel’s secret affair is brought to light and the men find themselves in a bit of a predicament when a group of airmen mistake them for women!

The fifth series of this excellent classic BBC series marks a sad time in its' history. Michael Bates who brilliantly played Bearer Rangi Ram was by now suffering from terminal cancer but despite this and being in a lot of discomfort, bravely struggled on to complete this series.

As with that other classic Perry and Croft comedy series, Dad's Army when it lost the equally great James Beck who played Private Walker until his untimely death, "It ain't half hot mum" was never quite the same following this loss. Having said that, it continued to be a great series for its' remaining years due in no small part to the fine ensemble of actors and of course the brilliant writing.

I would recommend this series to anyone who appreciates the very best in British comedy and I stick two fingers up to the 'PC' brigade who would no doubt frown upon its' subject matter.

Series 6 is available now, series 7 is due out soon. Let's hope the 8th and final series is released before long too.

this tv series is great i have all 6 out of 8 on DVD now just 2 more to get Windsor Davies is the top man
