Synopsis

A team of scientists and military personnel is dispatched to the distant Pegasus galaxy to explore the remnants of the Lost City of the Ancients, also known as Atlantis in this STARGATE SG-1 spin-off series. The Ancients were an advanced human race that initially created the Stargate network, and diplomat Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) and pilot Major John Sheppherd (Joe Flanigan) head the international squad that is sent to investigate. The team arrives at Atlantis to find the city abandoned and their ship permanently stranded, unless they can find a power source to get themselves home to earth. They make contact with a brave but primitive native civilisation as well as with the evil Wraith, a species that feeds on fear and, it quickly becomes clear, poses a threat to human life everywhere. Sheppard's brash, instinctive nature contrasts with the calm thoughtfulness of Dr. Weir, and their team is rounded out by Sheppard's second-in-command Lt. Aidan Ford, witty Scottish doctor Carson Beckett, Pegasus native leader Teyla Emmagen, and inimitable scientist Rodney McKay.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Finish To Season Two, 11 Aug 2006
By Mr. M. D. J. Allen "mike_allen_uk" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The last DVD of Season Two lacks the special features Stargate fans are use to, however this is made up by the four remaining episodes of Season Two which appear on this DVD.

"Coup D'etat" is a cold war style episode, which sees the return of the Geni (last seen in "The Siege: Part II). The overall storyline of this episode runs throughout and you will try and work out who is telling the truth and who to trust.

"Michael" sees the team transform a Wraith into a human, and try and protect the secret that is his past. The episode focuses on the morale of whether the team are right to change Wraith into humans and all the actors and actresses play their parts extremely well.

"Inferno" finds the team visiting a planet who need help, as the planets sheilds are failing, and by 15 minutes into the episode the team need helping as well, as they end up trapped on the planet.

"Allies" sees the return of "Michael" and he has bought along a Wraith Hive Ship. The Wraith wish to form an alliance against other Wraith, however can these Wraith be trusted enough to roam around Atlantis.

Overall the episodes are of excellent quality, with some funny lines appearing in most episodes.

The Special Features are lacking for a Season Finale DVD, and I hope MGM/Sony amend this problem for Season Three DVDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cliff Hanger, 1 Aug 2006
By D. Shaw (West Midlands UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Keeps up the high standards of the Stargate Atlantis franchise, which in my opinion has overtaken SG-1, which has lost its way & become a home for "OLD SCI-FI" stars without a show.
A few twists & the usual cliffhanger at the end.
