Synopsis

Following a unique formula that mixes courtroom drama with police investigation, each episode of LAW AND ORDER begins with the police force's discovery of a crime, and for the first half-hour, two detectives wade through the evidence to come up with a prime suspect. The second half of each show follows the suspect to trial and is told from the DA's point of view, revealing the intricacies and flaws of the U.S. legal system in the process. Staying topical by taking cases straight from current headlines, LAW AND ORDER is no less compelling when seen long after the real-life events have faded from the news, thanks in large part to its terrific cast and its intelligent and involving writing. This program contains the complete fourth series of the series, featuring fresh faces like Lt. Anita Van Buren (S. Epatha Merkerson) as well as a slew of old favourites (Chris Noth, Jerry Orbach). LAW AND ORDER is also well known for attracting respected guest stars, and this series is no exception, as it includes performances by Allison Janney and Lauren Ambrose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best cop show and a consistently good season of episodes, 13 Mar 2007

As good as always. Only a few episodes are below average in quality. And it features a not completely successful format breaking episode were we follow the cops on multiple cases with only a tiny cameo from the DA's assistant.

It's the first box set to have any extras, but the deleted and extended scenes add nothing to the episodes and are fairly dull to watch.

As worth while buying as any of the other seasons.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Series, 25 Mar 2008

Another fine example of why Law and Order is one of, if not, the best crime program ever made. The final episode bids the sad farewell of ADA Ben Stone who, in my opinion, is one of the best characters who ever appeared in the show. A couple episodes seemed to be a bit dull but there are quite a few that shine out such as 'Breeder'.

5.0 out of 5 stars MY FAVOURITE SERIES, 19 Jan 2010

How could anyone not enjoy this, the crime and then the punishment (or not). Hallmark show the series but they muck it about so much, show it out of order, repeating. This way, I can play what I want, when I want.
