It offers players the opportunity to grapple with the mysteries of the codecs hidden within the works of the great Italian genius. The Secrets of Da Vinci: The Forbidden Manuscript, a major adventure and investigation game from the creators of Return to Mysterious Island, is a thrilling mystical quest into the heart of the Renaissance that takes place in Da Vinci's last home, the Manoir du Cloux.

Play as Valdo, an apprentice to a disciple of Leonardo da Vinci, as he is entrusted by a mysterious patron with the mission of finding the great master's lost notes and codecs. Driven by his curiousity and taste for adventure, the young man sets out on his quest unaware of its importance and the dangers he faces. 4.0 out of 5 stars A simple, not too tasking, game with twists, 4 Jun 2006
By A.Chamberlain (Bradford, England) - See all my reviews
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This game is probably a bit too simple for advanced or maybe even general gamers, but I enjoyed it.
I don't particularly like the click and wait five minutes for the story to move on, way of moving around, it seems a little dated.
However, the sets are nice, you get to see a Francis 1st of France a couple of times - though I doubt he ever sat with his legs crossed!
It a nice story, where you can be angelic, devilish or balance them. You are over-loaded with items to carry, which I enjoyed, because it added to the confusuion of what you needed.
It's obviously pigging backing on the over-rated Da Vinci Code, but it doesn't feel that way. There's nice touches of history and background.
There's the boring "getting the girl" bit, but you don't have to if you don't want to, which is a twist and the game has a couple more up it's sleeve too.
It was a bit buggy, nothing really to moan at and there's a great cheat with the Mona Lisa, but work it out for yourself!
Altogether, not a bad way to spend a few hours.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dull, lifeless adventure game., 22 Jun 2009
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
There are some great new adventure games out there, like Barrow Hill, Dark Fall, The Lost Crown, Scratches, Rhiannon...the list could go on, and on...but this isn't one of them. The writers manage to make Da Vinci seem like the most dull inventor ever (quite an accomplishment), while the designers provide pretty, but very few, areas to explore. The puzzles are odd, to say the least, and are often presented as graphics in a book, rather than in the game-world. Still not convinced? Add some baffling plotting and bland conversations, and you have, what could possibly be, the most dull adventure game ever made. Take my advice, try one of the others mentioned above, and have your hard earned coins for something a bit more worthy and well intended.

This is a great game. It is absorbing and requires a great deal of thought. I really enjopy it and would advise anyone who enjoys hidden object and investigative games to buy it.
