5.0 out of 5 stars More than just a machine for making cows., 21 Oct 2006

I put this among the best releases by any artist fitting in to the 'Aphex Twin and harder' category, alongside Twin's own I Care Because You Do and Autechre's Draft 7.0. For me, although to be fair I haven't had it that long, it has the edge on other key Snares releases such as Huge Chrome... and Rossz Csillag... because it sounds like such a labour of love for Mr. Funk. The production is mindblowing and even when the tempo are at speeds approaching those on Winnipeg... as they are in patches, you can hear evry last bleep and creak as clearly as if they were notes in a Haydn String Quartet. He also deftly blends all that drilling and bassing with more spacey, introverted vibes; the album is laced with subtle timbral ingenuity and some delightful but (I think) thankfully restrained use of samples. The whole thing really works as a 'unified work' as well.

I highly recommend this release and indeed the whole Snares oeuvre to those who haven't discovered it yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 13 Jun 2006
By Mr. J. Doree "dr worm" (at work) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After the slightly perplexing lack of direction exhibited on his previous release, the antagonistically titled 'Meathole', Snares has returned with an album that's more melodic than a lot of his other work. Once the rhythmic freneticism has settled after a few listens it's apparent that the emphasis is now on soft plinky synths and warm acid squelches, sounds which have seen a slight renaissance in recent months. The main bulk of the drum programming reflects this new acid wave, so expect 606, 808 and 909's aplenty!
Overall it's a fascinating new angle on current electronic music, if you liked Rossz Csillag Alatt Született then I'm sure you'll love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Listen to the drum machine...", 7 Jun 2006
Another blinding album from Mr Funk, up there with the best of them. Its melodic and acidic in equal measure, with more reference to aphex/etc than usual, making it probably his most accessible album to date. To the hardcore snares fiends out there: its still got his trademark sound, beats cut up to oblivion, etc. but i'm sure the new emphasis on melody and harmony will be palatable to all but the most intense demonic breakcore junkies. Perhaps best summed up as the mid-point between chocalate wheelchair and huge chrome cylinder box, every track is killer. Personal favourites: Swindon and Plunging Hornets. A must buy for any fans of electronic music.

Gonna keep it short; this is one of the best, most well produced IDM, breakcore, DnB albums I've ever heard. Read more
