Synopsis

Although it only aired for one season (1971-1972), television series The Persuaders! holds a permanent place in the pantheon of cult classics. In addition to its distinguished TV pedigree--producer Robert S. Baker (The Saint), screenwriters Terry Nation (Doctor Who) and Brian Clemens (The Avengers)--The Persuaders! also boasts an inspired, once-in-a-lifetime pairing of screen legends Tony Curtis and Roger Moore (in a pre-Bond role). Moore plays bored English aristocrat Lord Brett Sinclair; Curtis a brash, self-made millionaire from the Bronx named Danny Wilde. Under threat of imprisonment, the unlikely duo are forced into a life of danger and espionage by a judge who wants to track down criminals the court couldn't convict. Together, the two wealthy playboys jet set across Europe in their quest to rid the world of villainy--with plenty of fast cars and faster women to help them along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Persuaders Perfection!, 20 Sep 2006
At last!...The Special Edition of the classic 70's ITC series, "The Persuaders!" which includes all 24 uncut episodes wonderfully remastered (check out those beautiful colours!) in a 9-DVD Box Set. Crime fighting with Curtis & Moore has never been as clear and colourful.

This is truly a great testament to a series that still holds a special unique blend of action and thrills for it's audience even to this day, more so than the few people who class this series as the epitome of everything that reeked Seventies 'Cheese'. Nevetheless, it's a good 'cheese' and in-demand too!

There are also some great extras on this set which includes a documentary featuring some hair-raising stories about Tony Curtis, image galleries from every episode and audio commentaries plus lots more.

If you're a fan, you'll love this and 'Network' have done a fantastic job with this series just like their great work with 'The Sweeney' DVD sets.

You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars cult T.V at its best., 16 Jul 2006

this series has been on dvd before, but is due for a reissue by september hopefully.
a classic example of cult tv at its best, tony curtis and roger moore star as two wealthy playboys who joyfully enter the spirit of fighting crime and seducing the women.
a shame this programme flopped in the U.S (no pleasing some people), the added bonus of filming on location only helps to make this one a winner; the U.K, France, Italy etc. makes a change from all the studio-bound stuff from before.
moore and curtis have a brilliant on-screen chemistry, whether exchanging wisecracks, fighting the villains etc.
you will find a whole gallery of familiar faces in the programme; terry thomas , andrew keir, nigel green, ian hendry, the creepy derren nesbitt, patrick troughton, bernard lee and even coronation street's mike baldwin, johnny briggs.
don't miss out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Telly Heaven, 28 Mar 2009
By G. R. Donaldson (Great Britain) - See all my reviews

As a nine year old in 1971 I could hardly wait for Friday evenings and my weekly fix of the Persuaders to come around. Now watching it on crystal clear DVD its as funny and charming as I remember it being. My favourites are the pilot episode with the iconic car race between Rogers Aston Martin and Tony Curtis's Ferrari. This scene featured the then new split screen technique accompanied by some fab hippy music.
Each episode usually featured some very familiar faces, Joan Collins as a hip seventies photographer. Patrick Troughton as a mad Nazi and lets not forget the late great Terry Thomas. In one episode Moore plays the entire St Clair clan as they are bumped off one by one. For anyone with a penchant for seventies TV gold this is a must have collection. You can also witness the hilarious sight of Roger Moore disco dancing. That alone is worth the price of this set. A huge thumbs up.
