A Step In The Right Direction, 23 Nov 2006
Fun:
As is by now usual with this franchise, it has taken several leaps forward and a few steps backward.
I have played and completed every SmackDown! game since the original PlayStation version, and, as somewhat of a veteran, I was slightly worried about the new control system. Well, I really needn't have worried - I am completely in love with the new improved reversals, and the Ultimate Control moves are brilliant! I was also very impressed with the improved interactivity with your surroundings - it's getting closer and closer to being a fully realistic WWE experience! It didn't take me too long to adjust either, I've been playing less than a week and I'm already playing on Legend difficulty!
The Season mode is also the best by far, as in over 3 seasons I've had no repeated storylines, and at times it's actually very difficult! I love the e-mail function, it's much quicker and more effective than the previous games, where you'd sometimes have to spend ages looking for someone to talk to etc. Now they come to you, and WWE.com and WWE Magazine are used effectively(in the game, obviously) to further enhance the storylines. It would be nice if things were a little bit more Sperstar specific, but I don't have any major complaints.
The Create-A-Wrestler system also seems much improved, and I now actually find it easier and quicker than it was before.
I have not had a chance to play General Manager mode yet, so will have to reserve judgement on that for now!
Now, on to the few bad points...
As usual, the roster isn't up to date, but that's to be expected with any sports game, especially one like this where it changes so regularly. Hopefully you'll be able to download new superstars etc on the Next-Gen versions!
The legends this year are fairly decent, although it would have been nice to keep British Bulldog from last year and also add a few more. Still, can't complain!
The voiceovers are mostly very good, howevere there are a few Superstars who don't seem to have their real-life voiceovers. Worse still, there are a few Superstars(and Legends) who have no voiceovers whatsoever, and are therefore unplayable in Season mode.
The commentary, as usual, is abysmal, and is almost completely identical to the last game - hopefully this area will be much improved for next gen consoles.
The most disappointing omission is the complete lack of the ECW brand, and most of the Superstars(okay, Extremists) who come with it.
Again, hopefully things like this can hopefully be rectified with downloads, patches etc for the next gen consoles.

SVR 2007 PS2, 29 May 2007
Fun:
WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT!!! Smackdown vs Raw has improved yet again, with one of the best sporting ps2 games ever. i'll mention the good things about the game, and also the bad things:
GOOD THINGS:
1)Great graphics and realistic moves
2)GM Mode- a new entertaining mode
3)Improved season mode- longer and funner
4)Realistic entrances and belts
5)Good create modes, including create a superstar and stable etc
6)Reasonably big roster- could be better
7)Lots of different match types- could be more
8)Stamina system-makes gameplay more real (can be turned off)
9)Interactive grapples- gameplay more real
10)Realistic voices
BAD THINGS:
1)No weapons in HIAC
2)Too easy to escape in cage matches
3)Bad commentry, eg: i hit hhh with a steel chair and the first thing i hear is 'stone cold stunner, stone cold stunner, can you belive it?!?'
4)Not many weapons
5)Not a big choice of voices when creating a superstar
6)Possibly the roster could have been bigger
Overall it seems like there are quite a lot of bad things, but these are all tiny things, and things that you get used to when you've played the game a few times. apparently SVR 08 is coming out some time in october, and on ps2 aswell as other consoles, which is gd cos i don't have a ps3
