I was worried when I bought this album, because I didn't want to be disapointed because it's their old stuff. Well, I'm not! This cd is impressive, the main reasons I say so are.

1. The vocals are lower. Close to that of the Zao dude. And he changes pitch also. This I like because the vocal pitch hardly changes in the latest two albums. But they are still as powerfull as ever.

2. The instrumental guitar work and drums are still there so no worries here.

3. The creativity of the songs astounds me. For example even though I like "Meaning in Tragedy" and "Confined," they both sound quite farmilier as do others. But this Cd varies greatly that I never lost interest.

4. I found that "Frail Words" and "Shadows Are Security" have a very similar atmospher. But this disc feels darker! (evil laugh) MMWWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

5. There are loads of tracks on this album. Twenty-two in fact but some tracks are shorter so it's just over and hour long overall.

Reason for four stars instead of five - the cd start with five re-recorded songs, which sound almost identicle to the one they are replaceing. Also, the last five tracks are the same as the first, they are just the first recordings for they sounds very different.

Even though I have been giving the lastest two albums, "Frail and Shadows," some stick, i still love them!

So to AS I LAY DYING fans and MetalCore fans, this is a must for people who are serious fans don't buy it if this band isn't already in your top 5. The older songs of "encasing ashes" and the split Cd are great. Worth every penny. So Go Get, Now! You wont regret it!

Check this music out, it is awesome.
the music is awesome with the first songs ever recorded by AILD.
Illusions- amazing track, also on shadows are security 5/5
Only comlaints are some tracks are real short and no real singing, just an exquisite roar that can not be beaten.
Nice release As I Lay Dying
If you like any kind of metal, heavy metal, black metal,metalcore. i love them all, you will love this.
the words are the best bit! awesome words, talking about one person. JC
