Product Description

CD Description

One of the most successful female singers Britain has ever produced, Cilla enjoyed twenty consecutive Top 40 hits during the 1960s, including two number ones out of the eleven that made the Top 10. By the turn of the decade Cilla had begun to branch out into other areas of the entertainment industry, hosting her own long running variety series. By the 1990s Cilla was a bigger star on the television than she had been during her hit recording career, fronting such hugely popular series as Blind Date and Surprise Surprise. Blind Date disappeared from television screens in 2003, Cilla Black seemingly with it, but after a successful spell on the panel of Soapstar Superstar, Cilla was ready for a return to mainstream television. This album was originally recorded in 1980 and features Cilla's interpretations of then current and recent hits. It was the first album she recorded after completing her fifteen year contract with EMI and was produced by Bruce Welch at Abbey Road, featuring a sixteen track selection of Cilla's own favourite standards from the seventies.

2.0 out of 5 stars dissapointing, 21 April 2006
By C. J. Walker "cillafan" (U K) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I am a huge fan of Cilla Black the singer, but this album does not rank anywher near her best.Firstly it's all covers and Cilla uses her little girl soft voice,Cilla was allways at her best when she belts out a song. It's a sad fact that with Bruce Welch producing some original material could have been used, look what he did for Cliff's career five years earlier. This album took Cilla away from pop and aimed her at the easy listening market,it should have been a great oppertunity for Cilla to get back in the charts but it was wasted,a great shame.

1.0 out of 5 stars You have to laugh..., 20 Jul 2006
If you really fancy a bellyaching laugh and your ears can stand the nasal whining, check out this re-issue CD from the tuneless Ms. Black. Whoever told her to have a crack at some of the biggest hits of the day, including Abba's classic "Knowing me, knowing you," must have the biggest sense of humour on the planet. It's probably the same person who told her she could sing in the first place. It's a killer Cilla. Any more gems in the archives to make us howl with derision?

5.0 out of 5 stars About time too!, 20 April 2006
By Mr. J. Kavanagh (cheshire UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Its about time that this album was released with the original art work with Cilla at her best.

Great songs of the 70s that only Cilla could add the magic touch to.

The album so well deserved the silver disc status it originally received 25 years ago, and will be nice to hear it again without the scratches!
