Alice Cooper - Live at Montreux, 30 May 2006
There can be no doubting the legend of ALICE COOPER, particularly on the live circuit where his shows are still regarded as one of the top spectacles of rock and roll history. Last year, Cooper delivered another one of those classic shows to a sell out audience at the prestigious Montereux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and this show will soon be available for us all to enjoy as the subject of his latest DVD/CD release due 29th May on Eagle Rock.
A double dosage of classics open the show with 'Department of Youth' and 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' sending the Swiss festival goers crazy, and from here on in the viewer is mesmerised as they always are, by the whole product that is ALICE COOPER live...a product that all fans of real music must witness at some point in their lives.
This side of the millennium, ALICE COOPER's material has been nothing short of tremendous and fans will be delighted to note that some of the newer material is on show here. Latest album 'Dirty Diamonds' is represented by the brilliantly titled 'Woman of Mass Distraction' along with the title track itself, both of which stand up very well to the barrage of classics which surrounds them. The 'Brutal Planet' and 'Eyes of Alice Cooper' albums are also not forgotten with 'Gimme' and 'Between High School and Old School' both present.
Worthy of mention here are ALICE COOPER's band. They've been together for quite a while now and yet again here their performance is as reliable as ever with legendary drummer Eric Singer (KISS) particularly impressing with a thunderous drum solo half way through.
Timeless classics 'I'm Eighteen' and 'I Never Cry' are both highlights, while the dark tones of 'The Black Widow' and 'Welcome to My Nightmare' still manage to send a chill down the spine.
Unsurprisingly, the stage show is absolutely top drawer, and can only ever be topped by shock gore metallers GWAR (shame about their music). Sexy dancers, a guillotine, straightjacket, swords, you name it, it's on stage here... definitely not for the kids! The climax of the show is the brilliantly put together six song medley of 'The Awakening', 'Steven', 'Only Women Bleed', 'Ballad of Dwight Fry', 'Killer' and 'I Love The Dead' - all featuring their own touch of Alice magic stage production.
The DVD itself is very well produced with just the right amount of cuts per minute to keep it interesting without causing a headache and/or epileptic fit. The sound production of the recording is also excellent and this makes it all the more pleasing to know that not only do you get the DVD, but also a CD featuring the majority of the concert soundtrack. Great stuff indeed!
As you'd expect, the mega hits are all present with 'Elected' being the only surprise exclusion. The sole UK number 1 hit 'Schools Out' closes the initial show in style, while 'Poison', the hit which re-ignited Cooper's career in the late 80's, opens the encores in fine fashion.
Considering the fact that ALICE COOPER was 57 years old at the date of this recording, it is astounding just how good he sounds right from the first note of 'Department of Youth', to the very last of encore closer 'Under My Wheels' . This is a top vocal performance and his presence on stage is still massive. One things for sure when you watch this DVD, the man himself is still enjoying every minute of his life as the world greatest shock rocker.
Overall, this latest release from ALICE COOPER is superb package and an excellent document of one of rock 'n' roll's finest live performers doing exactly what he does best. Not just for classic rockers, this show will be enjoyed by anyone who likes good stage production and a collection of fine rocking tunes to make you feel like a billion dollars, or even like a billion dollar baby!

Good old Alice !!!!!!, 21 Oct 2006
This is Alice Cooper at his best, I was lucky enough to be at one of his shows from this tour, in the front row ,and it was a great experience to be 15 feet away from Alice.
This DVD captures that atmosphere spot-on, everythings in there, straight jacket, Alice being beheaded, swords, dancers ETC. He has a top notch band with him, the rock don't stop for around one and a half hours. The DVD is well produced with a crystal clear picture and excellent audio quality, theres options of DTS, Dolby 5.1 and PCM 2 channel stereo.
Not many extras but who cares about that , you get a great performance from the legend that is Alice Cooper. You do however get a CD of the concert which is an added bonus for playing in the car, it does not contain all the tracks from the concert though!!!
Alice Cooper can show some of these younger performers how to do it, he puts on a quality show that is well worth the £7.49p that I paid for this DVD, this DVD is a must have for all you Alice fans out there!!!!!!!
