5.0 out of 5 stars 'Back on form' doesn't begin to do it justice, 11 May 2006
By Maximus Decimus Meridius (Colchester, Essex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rio Grande Blood (Audio CD)
Ministry's best album for years by some considerable distance, this is why I loved them in the first place, aggressive, relentless, angry and, er, catchy!

I'd almost given up on Ministry, buying successive albums more out of hope and duty than expectation and being more disappointed as the dross piled up, but this is what I always wanted.

I'd pretty much set aside the summer to listen to the new Tool album (also brilliant btw), I wasn't expecting competition from a band who's best years were a decade or so ago. If you loved N.W.O. Just One Fix, Thieves or Burning Inside, then get this.

Can't wait to hear this stuff live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ministry on blazing form!, 9 Mar 2007

From the first notes of this album, i knew it was going to be Ministry's heaviest album to date, and it didn't disappoint. I couldn't believe the speed of Senor Peligro, Fear(Is Big Business)and the title track Rio Grande Blood, these are absolutley THE heaviest and fastest songs they have ever recorded. It's no wonder i heard them being referred to as "Slayistry" going on these riffs. If you're a fan, buy it. I know lots of people went off them in their Filth Pig/Dark Side of the Spoon phase (not me, i love all their stuff), but if you like heavy Ministry, this is for you. Like the other reviewers said though, if you're expecting a return to Stigmata, you could be disappointed. If you're just after hefty tunes that bait Mr Bush, this is for you.

I was lucky enough to see them last year in London, probably the most insane show i have ever seen. Their next tour, for The Last Sucker, their final album, will most likely be their last, check them out if you can.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uncle Al Strikes Back, 10 May 2006
By dr.d "." (somewhere else) - See all my reviews

Very much in the same vein Houses Of Mole' since Barkers departure this album again proves to be a very much solid but not ( IMO ) outstanding effort by the Ministry crew.

The outstanding element being the one track dubbed " The Great Satan " which has some catchy lyrical hooks the likes of some other Industrial pioneers like NIN could surely do with since last years release ( think Every day is Exactly the Same )

Any way I think its a safe bet if you like Metal /Thrash you are not going to be disappointed by the level of intensity displayed in classical Alien Jourgs Grroowls and thrashy guitars , though the lack of voice distortion / synths for the more " Industrial " folk maybe be too much to bear..

There is nothing wrong with this album which is of course why I have it, its overall well produced and put together and the samples work well with the music to generate the kinda of anti-political mood you'd expect from album that has G . Bush spread on its front cover.

As long term Ministry fan however I would have to say this album is not really a step forward but more of transition for a group that used to be Industrial and has now become Metal / Thrash, thats a shame if you remember such classics as " Stigmata " , " Over the shoulder " etc and great If you like no nosense metal..
