I never thought I would hear this - the full 29 songs from Jake's Nov 1970 concert at the QEH. The original LP (long deleted) only had 14 tracks. This is Jake at his best - just him and his guitar. A brilliant performer and much missed.

What a performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London this must have been! The original LP release of this gig on November 1st 1970 has been boosted to double the tracks available and is presented on two CDs.

Jake was at his best accompanying himself. There is no overforced orchestral arrangements in this performance, distracting you from the songs, just his own beautiful classical guitar playing, and his deadpan singing.

For those having trouble working out if you've already got this recording, like me, the LP contained only:
Side 1. Family Tree, The Hole, Isobel, Miss World, Pass Milord the Rooster Juice, Remember Bethlehem (according to the fan site, but not according to the CD track listing), Ladies Basic Freedoms Polka.
Side 2.The Cactus, Lah-Di-Dah, Leopold Alcocks, The Lodger, The Last Will and Testament of Jake Thackray, Grandad, Romance.

The other seminal EMI collection Jake in a Box: the EMI Recordings 1967-1976 excludes this recording so you needn't worry about duplication.

This pair of CDs is not simply music, it's an uplifting experience that makes you see the world differently through Jake's wonderfully witty and irreverent humour. His cleverly crafted phrases delivered in his unique and totally unconventional style will always keep you guessing as to where the emphasis and tempo will shift to next - he is never boringly predictable. Several of our younger friends especially having never heard him before, have immediately bought a copy for themselves and sometimes others after listening to mine.
