5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome- What Did You Expect?, 14 Mar 2006

Dirty Pretty Things--> Fantastic
"Bang Bang You're Dead" Is a brilliant track, listenting to it you can clearly see that Carlos put the rock and roll in to the libertines. I first heard it 4 months ago and cant stop playing it since, everyone who ive played it too have loved it also. The guitar riff is catchy and makes you want to dance, and Carls lyrics remain top quality as usuall. Babyshambles are good but i must DPT are the phoneix that rose from the ashes of the Libertines.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bang bang libertines are dead, 13 May 2006
Its official... The libertines are dead and Dirty pretty things shot them down (with babyshambles as their right hand man)
The song starts off with "Oh tell me what did you expect?" In truth? We expected a whole lot more from this band. We expected some evident artefacts of the former brilliance buried under the masses of drugs and corruption to be apparent in this song. We expected to see some hope for this band, and for the libertines.. and expected this band o reassure us that the libertines ARENT dead.. that while the two have gone their seperate ways, they still will remain to bring music to our ears. However, did we get that? No my friend.. Indeed we did not.
Its not that I hate Dirty pretty things.. In fact I really did want to like this band. While Babyshambles (Pete doherty's new band) is well, quite frankly...Shambles to be honest, and make no effort to even appeal to their fans by never turning up to half of their gigs- I had high hopes for this newer band- which in reality is a little naive now that you may think of it.
The song "Bang bang you're dead" has no depth whatsoever.. no poetic lyrics at all (not to say that every song shoudl be a Matthew bellamy composite of course but at least some meaningful, or standout lyrics) no depth or any imagination or creativity.. Just a one liner catchy hook "Bang bang you're dead" repeated over and over again.Sure its catchy but it gets so overplayed that it will drive the listener up the wall or hope that they were indeed dead. The truth is that that is exactly what the libertines are, and any hope for us libertines fans.. somewhere along their succes, they died. Throw in some sloppy half hearted basslines, some average mediocre guitar riffs and you'/ve basically got a slapdash excuse for a song.
There are so many crap british "indie" rock bands out there nowadays, who think they can sell records just so long as an electric guitar and a bass is somewhere present in their songs. Not to say that Dirty pretty things fall into this genre, but the thing is, as a libertines fan i KNOW they could do SO much better than this! This is not the man who created songs such as "Music when the lights go out" or the equally good song - What Katie did- with fun, romantic lyrics such as "Since you've said goodbye..polkadots fill my eye"Of course, this may be my own bitterness and reminiscing over the libertines former glory.. In fact, if you're NOT a libertines fan then you may actually find this song very appealing, since there are so many new "indie" rock fans (or should i say Hipsters) out there nowadays.. So yes, its understandable that you may find this song really rather good.. and why not? So dont take my review too personally.. listen to the song and make up your own minds, u may find u take a liking to this new track. However, if you ARE a former libertines fan, then when listening to this track one may find that they ask themselves- what became of the likely lads?
