For fans of lightweight murder mysteries this show is a must. One can't but admire the overall quality of the writing and scenarios the shows offer. While Season One was overall pretty good, it had it's fair shair of lulls as the show proceeded to find it's proper path. Season Two is much more consistant and some of the mysteries are really top notch.

When shows constantly change sceneries and have a different topic there are always some episodes better than others. Some of the better ones here take place in Cabot Cove as the show expands on the recurring characters. But just about every episode here has something going for it.

Another thing the show's famous for and that's for it's superb roster of guest stars. Every episode has good quality actors but as always this is Angela Lansbury's show and she's simply fantastic as the (world's best?) sleuth.

Anyhow, Murder, she wrote easily kills a lot of hours and most every one of them are really enjoyable.

Even with the ham acting, I find the "Murder, She Wrote" series great entertainment in what the American's call the "cosy" style. Jessica "J.B." Fletcher obviously lives in New England's version of St. Mary Meade, along with a small group of stereotype figures (curmudgeonly local doctor, bungling sherrif, etc.), all of whom might get a little irritating over the course of a full-length film, but who combine to make (IMO) excellent. albeit lightweight, entertainment over the course of 40-45 minutes.

If you're looking for intellectually challenging mysteries this series probably isn't for you, but if you just like the fun of reasonably well-plotted mysteries - always with benefit of at least one key clue in plain sight, if you're alert enough to spot it, you'd have a job and a half finding anything better than *most* of these episodes. Which are, in disc order:

Disc 1:
1. Widow, keep for me
2. Joshua Peabody died here ... Possibly
3. Murder in the afternoon
4. School for scandal

Disc 2:
5. Sing a song of murder
6. Reflections in the wind
7. A lady in the lake
8. Dead heat

Disc 3:
9. Jessica behind barrs
10. Sticks and stones
11. Murder digs deep
12. Murder by appointment only

Disc 4:
13. Trial by error
14. Keep the home fries burning
15. Powder keg
16. Murder in the electric cathedral

Disc 5:
17. One good bid deserves a murder -
This season's outing for P.I. Harry McGraw (the late, great Jerry Orbach making a welcome guest appearance several years before he joined the 'Law & Order' team but already showing the characteristics that eventually earned him well-deserved star status.)
18. If a body meet a body
19. Christopher Bundy - died on Sunday
20. Menace, anyone?

I really enjoyed this series and then went on to buy the following series. It really cheered me up and when I want 'me' time I pop it in the DVD player! I can't wait to get each new series when they are released too! xxxx
