All the Superman movies were fantastic and atmospheric. Alot of the praise should go to the scores that were written, which played a brilliant part in bringing superman to life. This spin-off album, however, pretty much falls on its face.

It looks as if the people compiling this album gradually began to miss the point of what they were doing. Most of the tracks are pure rock, something that is already very difficult to caputer the essense of a hero like superman with. To add to this, it isn't even particularly good rock. In contrast, a track like Chad Kroeger's hero for the spiderman movie would've worked wonders in this album, however the songs that did make it into this are pretty much very bad covers of what were quite nice melodies.

The first track, a cover of I Am Superman orginally by REM, sounds like it should work pretty well. The Academy Is... was the band chosen to do the cover, and this has to be pretty much the worst song these guys have ever done. It's bland, boring and nothing like REM's version.

Having said that there are at least three songs that work and are worthy of their place in a superman album. These are American Hard Fi's The Rescue, Paramore's Acoustic version of My Hero (originally by the Foo Fighters), and You're Never Gone by Sara Routh. If the rest of the songs had been like thise, I expect the album would have worked wonders.

As it stands, the album is a waste of an idea and has become another one of those dreary non-sensical compilations that falls flat on its face.
