Synopsis

From the creators of Father Ted and The Office comes this, the first series of The IT Crowd, the popular British sitcom that’s taking the country by storm. Roy and Moss toil in the squalid basement of a huge company, fielding IT help-desk calls. Roy has a lousy attitude coupled with an eye for the ladies, while Moss is dressed by his mother and has an aerosol can of water clipped to his belt with which to spray his ear when it gets hot. Into their life of `users`, pizza, science fiction and firewalls comes middle manager Jen, a punky can-do career gal who doesn`t know one end of laptop from the other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Er..., 25 Oct 2006
By Graham Linehan - See all my reviews

It's not written by Chris Morris, as one nincompoop said. It's by me, Graham Linehan.

Five out of five! (Option wouldn't go any higher).

Bored with sit-coms ?
Not seen anything new in a while ?
Well I think this is a fantastic fresh comedy with 3 new characters that are very very lost and end up working together in the basement of a big corporation biulding.
It could have worked a lot better without the background laughs , that ruins it a bit sometimes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, 6 Mar 2007
By S J Buck (Kent, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This excellent series written by Graham Lineham (who wrote Father Ted) is four and a half stars for me. The main characters are a mixture of the worst that you see with IT people. Roy is a slob and Moss is geek. Worst of all they don't like dealing with IT problems! They have a tape recorder which they run to answer the phone. It says things like "Have you tried turning it off and on?" They work in the basement in a world of their own and usually upset any staff who come down to visit them. Moss in particular seems to have no understanding of reality at all and behaves very oddly at times, which is very funny.

Their new boss Jen knows nothing about IT and has been given the job of Manager of IT by the Managing Director, because she lied on her CV. The Managing Director is played by Chris Morris and he is the best thing about the show. Truly this man is one of the great unsung heros of British comedy. Remember The Day Today, with the Jeremy Paxman like front man - thats him. Whenever he is in a scene he steals the show from everybody else.

The show as a whole is well worth getting on DVD. It certainly holds up to repeated viewings and the extras include some deleted scenes, out-takes, a look behind the scenes, as well as audio commentaries.
