4.0 out of 5 stars A true gem for all Oldfield fans, 1 Jan 2007
By C. G. M. Bekhuis "ChrisX" (the Netherlands) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Just watched it for the first time and this is a real gem. Sound is good, picture quality as well (you have to understand this is from 1981 !!) and most importantly, the performances are stellar. It thought is was quite funny to see Oldfield flunk a certain guitarpassage on Ommadawn (and then play it perfectly a few seconds later). The QE2 material in a live situation is much, much better and energetic. What makes it even better is that all those tunes are sequed instead of stand alone tunes as on the studio-album.

One remark about Maggie Reilly's stage presense on this album: yes, it seems overly concentrated and maybe even dull but I think it has something to do with the fact that she can hardly hear own voice coming from the monitors on stage because she is continually closing one ear so that she can at least herself and check wether she is in tune.

The Conflict / Ommadawn segment of the show is the major highlight of this set. It is a testament to the quality of the performers that this grand piece of music was presented in such a great way live.

5.0 out of 5 stars a platinum performance, 29 Oct 2006
By J. Rawstron (Rochdale, Lancs United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Mike Oldfield has assembled numerous very capable musicians in live performances over the years, and this concert is no exception. Coming only a couple of years after the grandiose tour that was' exposed', this is altogether a smaller scale offering, but no fewer than five of his first seven studio albums are showcased here (ok five miles out only a little bit). Perfectionists might wince at the obvious mistakes in Platinum and Ommadawn, (Mike himself probably did) but to be honest they do not detract from an otherwise expert rendering from all concerned. One of his less feted albums, QE2, is seen here in a warmer altogether more exciting form, and whilst some of it is note for note the album, the exuberance on stage gives it a lease of life not always apparent on either vinyl or CD. The mandolin is used to good effect to recreate the Taurus 1 intro (longer than on the album) and then is used for some fun but impressive playing on sailors hornpipe and for what was originally a recorder solo on Ommadawn. I reiterate a previous reviewer who comments upon Maggie Reilly's downcast expression, but this might be down to concentration. All the other musicians, Mike included, are clearly having a good time up on stage with up to three percussionsists at any one time making this a powerful performance from such a small ensemble interspersed throughout with more delicate parts especially from Mike.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Memories come flooding back, 19 May 2006

The Memories come flooding back

When I first saw Mike Oldfield it was in 1980 so this is a good reminder of that time. (recorded 1981)

This starts of with a Q E 2 medley /Tarus /Sheba / Mirage then we go on to Platinum 1 to 4 Tubular bells part two. A medley of conflict / omadawn. Tubular Bells part one and finishing with punkadiddle .

As with all Live recordings there are slight variations of his music and that makes it all the better Mike as always has a good group of artist with him and playes a very good guitar.
In parts of the program Maggie sings Cleo Lane style personally that dose nothing for me I'd sooner Maggie to be singing as she dose best like Moonlight Shadow and so on.
Omadawn stands out for me with a fantastic build up to finish witch consist of three drummers going flat out for at least five minuets may be more and deserved every bit of the applause it got.
To sum up a very good energetic recording of mike doing what he dose best and I will watch this many times and never tire of his musical talent.
( And despite the age of the recording a Good picture quality not perfect but good
