5.0 out of 5 stars sheer class, 30 Oct 2006
By Andrew Macdonald "ninja107" (isle of man) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
i have to confess that on first listen, I wasn't blown away. However, I was also fortunate enough to see the band live a few months ago and it was one of the best gigs I have ever been to. it also made me go back and listen to the album again - and when you do, you realise the brilliance of the lyrics, the beautiful melodies, and the way it is all so skillfully linked together. Buy it, and listen to it. Then listen again, and another time after that to hear the true beauty of one of the best albums I have the pleasure of owning

4.0 out of 5 stars You thought it couldn't get better than Final Straw?, 11 April 2006
By A Customer
Having listened to all of Snow Patrols albums from When its all over we have to clean up to this one I can definitely say that this album is the best of the lot. Final Straw was a brilliant album and I thought that nothing Snow Patrol ever put out would top it. I was wrong:

1 - You're All I Have - Amazing single that sets the pace for the rest of the album. Hard Indie at its best.
2 - Hands Open - An angry song with an extremely catchy chorus. Heavier than most Snow Patrol songs.
3 - Chasing Cars - If they don't release this one then they are mad. A calm ballad which just explodes and gets louder as it goes on. Brilliant lyrics from Lightbody. Shows progression from Final Straw album
4 - Shut Your Eyes - A bit of a filler compared to the above three, but its a grower.
5 - It's beginning to get me - just when you thought the album was getting softer it comes back with this one. Again, mad if they don't release it, very catchy and good guitar riff.
6 - You Could Be Happy - Any reindeer section fans remember "Would you be there for me?" This one is just like that. Xylophone, extremely soft and heartfelt song.
7 - Make This Go On Forever - Piano, angry lyrics. Back to older albums, a bit depressing but i like it.
8 - Set The Fire To The Third Bar - Soft lyrics with a girl singing. I don't get this one, the only reason the album isn't 5 stars is this song. A bit droany.
9 - Headlights On Dark Roads - Just as you were drifting off they come back with the fastest song of the album. I love this one because of the heavy drum and guitar.
10 - Open Your Eyes - Keeps the pace of the album going, all with one voice and an electric guitar and brilliant lyrics. I think this song shows Lightbodys voice has got better
11 - The Finish Line - Weird and wonderful. Soft, organ, ELO atmosphere. The vocal provides the melody "The earth is warm next to my ear. Insect noise is all I hear. A magic trick makes the world disappear. The skys are dark, they're dark but they're clear." Genius.

BUY THIS ALBUM AND ENJOY IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars i'm lovin it, 21 Mar 2007
By joey (wales) - See all my reviews
i am so into snow patrol at the moment. the first album of theirs that i bought was final straw a year or two ago after hearing the glorious run on the radio. after playing it to death i decided to give their back catalogue a go and bought songs for polar bears and when its all over we still have to clear up, and i loved them too. i was so excited about a new album coming out that i got it as soon as i could, and let me say i was not disappointed. from some really good rocky tracks like hands open to the truly beautiful set the fire to the third bar, this album has something for everyone and something to suit every mood. i've hardly listened to anything but snow patrol for about a year and i haven't tired of their music yet. although i have to say its not quite as good as final straw, this is still definitely not to be missed.

Final Straw made Snow Patrol a household name, and rightly so. But now they are about to release their follow up album and expectations are high, well at least from me anyway... Read more
