Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Take Command: 2nd Manassas is the latest game based on MadMinute Games's award-winning real-time game engine, which has been hailed by many critics as the greatest tactical Civil War PC engine of all time. While focusing on the essential elements of decision-making, the player needs to Take Command or be overcome by it.

An exciting new feature of TC2M will be carryover in scenarios or connected battles. New carryover scenarios will start with the men that survived the previous day's battle. So your command decisions will not just affect today, they will affect tomorrow as well and maybe even the day after that. TC2M will also include 2 other crucial battles of the 2nd Manassas Campaign: Cedar Mountain and Chantilly.

With over twenty scenarios and a new and improved Open Play engine, MadMinute surpasses their previous success with Civil War Bull Run. Other important innovations include new uniform types, expanded cavalry commands, the ability for infantry to "take cover", a feature that pauses the game and allows you to tour the map and plan your strategy, and five new historically accurate US battlefield maps with field crops. There's even an evening sky that adds to the already life-like terrain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take Command-2nd Manassas, 19 Jul 2006

Well what can I write that hasn't already been covered by other reviewers?
I'm a big fan of WW2 games such as the Combat Mission series and only have a passing interest in the American civil war but this game can keep you in front of the computer for hours if you let it!
A very well put together game, worthy of all the reviews so far. I especially like how the game developers encourage people to mod the game (flags, uniforms and order of battles etc).
There are quite a few scenario's that come with the game (plus two others to download) and if you ever grow tired of playing them (and I doubt it as they play differently each time) then there's open play. This is where you pick the side, the OOB's and area to fight on. Your not restricted to just defend or attack, there are several handy options open to you.
I recommend you add it to your collection and it wont be gathering dust on the shelf like so many others.
Well done Mad Minute games!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best wargames ever made., 8 May 2006

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Get this game if you have any interest in wargaming or indeed military history. Its a perfect recreation of the 2nd Battle of Manssas or 2nd Bull Run depending on your Union/Confedorate affiliations. The AI is excellent and the command structure means you command as a general not as a top down all know uber general. There is a excellent historical battles campaign and an Open Play mode that allows you to command everything from being a full Corps commander down to taking command of an individual artillery battery or even cannon.

The production values are not as flashy as Rome Total War. And the realism is incredible. This is a game from a small developer who are promising ever more detailed and intricate games in the future and if so then they should be encouraged and rewarded with a purchase.

The gameplay is one of the few that actually make you feel like you are there, on the battlefield with the troops, and the subtleties of combat have never been better been expressed in a video game. A turn of the regiment, not applying reserves, holding back artillery, arriving late, not covering flanks, deployiong cavalry at the right time etc have never been better implemented anywhere in any game I have ever played. I stress again, GET THIS GAME!! It will make you dig out or even buy the Ken Burns American Civil War DVD set, and that period of history is rarely covered in the UK media and Take Command 2nd Manassas has inspired me to explore a whole new area of history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic, 23 Jun 2006
By Ulster Confederate (Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I don't write many reviews but just had to write this one. A few months ago I was viewing a game site on the web I had just got broadband internet so I decided I would download a few demos. One in particular caught my eye 2nd Manassas being very interested in the civil war I knew a little about the battle also known as 2nd Bull Run but I had never seen or heard of this game. So as i downloaded the demo I did not hold out much hope of it being very good .I love RTS games like American conquest , Cossacks , Divided Nation and of course Rome Total War surely if this demo was any good I would have heard of it. I installed the demo and ran the game. Union soldiers were marching into position regimental standards flying in the breeze MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR because it looked that good. I was instructed to take command of the units and as I did suddenly from out of a wood a large number of Confederate troops emerged led by a mounted officer they made a battle line and opened fire musket smoke filled the ,air my troops returned fire. To my amazement I had stumbled across what I believe is the BEST war game ever made by a mile. Easy to learn ,historically accurate , lovely battlefields, massive battles. This game is awesome did I buy it? You better believe it. If you are into RTS games like Rome total war you cant miss 2nd Manassas , the games forum is also fantastic with loads of mods for sounds ect An absolutely wonderful game a total masterpiece.
