3.0 out of 5 stars Good, brutal fun, 18 Jul 2006
By Mr "X" (Glasgow, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Firstly let me just clear one point, there is not an excessive amount of swearing in this game, there is far less swearing in this game than in alot of 15 rated games.

The story goes you are Kyle, a pit fighter earning what you can to survive brutally fighting opponents in a 'fight club', as you only have your fists as a means of income. Your brother, Cody is one of the original Final Fight cast members and he is no longer able to fight due to bad knees. They only just scrape by, but they remain on the right side of the law as best they can.
Without revealing too much of the story, Kyle has to trace his Brother who goes missing and the resulting bloodshed is quite good fun, though relatively repetitive.

A severe problem of this game aside from trying to remain similar to the original by having you fight multiple opponents that look very similar, was the graphics. They are very clunky looking and considering the recentness of the game are quite outdated looking. The voice acting is not great either and the story will no doubt displease fans of the original with it's 'Resident Evilesque' story and characters later in the game.

Having grown up not playing Final Fight, but instead playing it's carbon copy 'Streets of Rage' on the Megadrive, I didn't have high hopes for it, as I didn't know what to expect, and although not immediately disappointed, I left the game feeling pleased to have completed the difficult later missions and saving the day, but at the same time a bit unsatisfied with the conclusion.

I then went on to complete the original game, very nostalgic, great in it's day, but it is very dated now.

I would recommend this as something a bit different and brutal, but to all those fans of the original (like my mate who felt fleeced by this game) I advise to stay well clear of this if you have high hopes for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars More swearing than a world full of Cnavs!, 2 Jun 2006
Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
As a kid i used to spend hours and pocketfuls of 10ps on two things Football sticker albums and the original Final Fight Coin OP. Neither of which i ever managed to complete, years on and a completed sticker album behind me i bravely took on the Next Generation of my age old nemesis.
Sadly much like the completion of the sticker album i was left unfulfilled once i completed this rather easy rather one dimensional and tather joyless game
Essentially you mooch about a rather unrealistic city, where you find First Aid boxes in bins and crates beating up people to earn respect and to trac down clues on your bro'. Sounded like fun it wasn;t after enduring the painful bad boy soundtrack , you have oodles of dafr mini games like Cockroach squashing. Arm wrestling badguys , (button bashing so easy an athritic granny could do it) and oh more cockroaching crushing.
If the terrible Hip Hop soundtrack enoug its backed up with jerry Springer Show style profanity throughout for effect
"You don;t know me f you f that man its like listening to world full of chavs drinking cider outside your local offy
best bits have to be the pit-fighting sequenceswhich are good if grate slightly when you know how to beat each guy or lady to the point that its just dull.
I won;t go into the story line but suffice to say its laughable
For a game of such blood and swearing its actucally quite camp,My childhood hero Haggar has been reduced to some sort of old sleazy school teacher and the bad guys well there not really bad at all.
The most unforgivabl facet is the unlockable Final Fight original game, its jerky and horrific to play and it boke my heart.
Avoid this, but if like me you loved the original check out Capcom Classics Collection, yes theres dross on it but the original and jerk free original is on it and worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy enjoyable nonsense, 19 Mar 2006

(REAL NAME)
i have had the pleasure of playing an advanced demo of this game. I am a HUGE fan of the original final fight, Double Dragon, Renegade etc. so an update was something i was very excited about. The graphics are good but not great, with murky and grainy replacing the bright cartoon colours of the original. It looks like 'Manhunt' at times. The fighting is pretty much button bashing, but very satisfying- its meaty and has 'ouch factor'- a bit like 'Def Jam:NY', it is also more fun than The warriors, which it is bound to get compared to. As you move through the game, fighting fair oponents gets you 'respect' that in turn allows greater interaction with AI characters, mugging old ladies too often loses you respect and looses you the chance to play numerous sub game challenges that allow you to complete the game, including darts, armwrestling, pit fighting, and bug extermination (I kid you not). These are completely bonkers side plots, but they are FUN, and keep you coming back for more. there is also a neat twist like the need for speed most wanted custom shops, in that if the police are after you, you can disguise your character- new clothes, even put them in drag! allowing you to continue your quest and not go to jail. having beaten an oponent, you can shake em down for cash or info, or you can get them to join your gang, and call upon them to complete some tasks (and give a good old fashioned kicking to an oponent). Its not as pretty as 'urban reign', its not as 'cool' as 'Ecko's getting up' and it is nothing like the original Final Fight, yet it manages to be FUN, PLAYABLE, AND ORIGINAL, making it potentialy a cult classic. Buy it.
