3.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic but not a flight sim, which is bad, 11 April 2006
By J. Clarkson (London, England United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Hard to believe Ubisoft brought out this game on pc without testing the joysticks properly, (mine like many others didn't work with this game. they've brought out a patch to fix this but it only solved part of the problem with my logitech joystick)

This is an issue that I expect to be solved in the near future BUT what PISSED ME OFF MOST is just one little thing, when you tilt the joystick to steer, the game automatically activates the ailerons (to make it easier for u to perform the maneuver) -BUT THAT TAKES AWAY THE FUN! as well as the realism! which is a pity because the physics in my view are spot on and the game looks STUNNING!!!!! and real, the sheer scale is amazing too. The unique way of tracking the target helps but I found it slightly disorientating in heated combat, and it makes me tilt my head all the time lol.

I wanted a combat flight sim, but got tempted by the graphics and I'm quite disappointed with this xbox arcade adfafjhkl! designed for a joypad.

Gottu say though, the EXPERIENCE OF PLAYING THIS GAME IS AMAZING(if u spent a grand on ur computer), and if you're an american here's another chance for u to save the whole world again!! I though am sticking with IL2 Forgotten Battles(why make do without cockpit view =)and Stalin).

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but it needs patches, seriously!, 23 Jun 2006
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
First of all, this is a good game, but it needs a lot of improvement here and there.

Background: Looking for a WWII fighter game for a while back, but not very good at control the fighter, i.e. amateur sim player. But would like to enjoy some fun in dogfight. Tried with demo, using *keyboard*, at least I shot something down. So bought it and gave it a go.

Pros:
1. Relatively easy to get your hands on it, if you are green.
2. Stunning graphics and sounds effects, with the newest shader effects and very realistic accoustic impact sounds etc.

Cons:
1. Doesn't support joystick very well, or not at all at the moment. I have a logitec 3D extreme, but it doesn't support at all, all the key mappings are messed up.
2. Internet playing problem, dedicated server etc. But for me it is not a major issue atm.

Current Status from Ubi BA community:
1. They are trying to fix the joystick problems. Two patches are released, 1.01 and 1.02, though 1.01 doesn't fix my joystick major problem. 3D extreme stick is claimed fixed, but mapping is still a problem.

2. When I bought it, it didn't have a cockpit view, it seemed they have added it in later 1.02 patch.

All in all, I think it is still a good game, if you can bear with the basic keyboard playing the game instead of using your favourite joystick for a while, as from the community, there are still problems with some popular joysticks and with mapping. Please do check their forum to ensure yours is compatible with 1.02 if you are in a hurry.

For those who are not extreme sim dogfighting fan, I recommend to put it on hold for a while, and see what others say about the latest patches etc. to avoid disappointment on some aspects of it.

Having been playing keyboard with it for a while, now I still think it is one of those good WWII dogfighting games those dogfighting manic should have.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time, 30 Jul 2006

Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Blazing Angels is a game full of problems, if you can even get it to load! After many attempts I eventually got passed the protection key. Despite many repeated attempts to get help from the Ubisoft website (still waiting) downloading the patches I have finally admitted defeat and unistalled this game for good and binned it.Don't waste your money!
