3.0 out of 5 stars Give Them An Inch..., 1 Jan 2008
By Iestynovich (London, England) - See all my reviews
One of the joys of a Miss Marple is the moment she castigates herself for being so terribly, terribly stupid and calls for Inch. Inch being the local taxi firm, we know she's off to the station for a train to London, and will soon be searching the records at Somerset House for proof that character X is character Y's secret spouse/parent/offspring.

The Inch ploy has been bulldozed from this adaptation and the denouement has sadly been brought in line with Arts Council box-ticking requirements.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Great Shame, 31 Jan 2010
By tubbydaddy (Pontefract UK) - See all my reviews
When Ms McEwan's foray into the role of Miss Marple was announced I was looking forward to it. She is a very fine actor and she did make a very good Marple. The period setting was well done and it was good to see a stellar cast in the production. What lets this version down is the ending. Why on earth did they go for the ending that they did? Christie's ending was perfectly satisfactory and competent. The old maxim "if it aint broken don't try to fix it" fits in here. The people who came up with this have, for me, got it very wrong. I don't know if it was the script writer(s), the producer, some other behind the camera person or any combination of the above.

Either way I was left feeling disappointed by the experience. I will stick with Joan Hickson.

3.0 out of 5 stars No respect, 5 May 2007
The story is well filmed but the end is a shame, does not respect Agatha Christy, our time is not a reason to change the end with an also stupid idea. Joan Hickson stay really my preferred Miss Marple for ever.
