With Melua's passionate and alluring voice and these lyrics, with a simplistic but very effective melody, we have a real hook in the chorus: "Because the line between /Wrong and right / Is the width of a thread / From a spider's web/ The piano keys are black and white / But they sound like a million colours in your mind."

There's a naivety in some of the other lyrics, that are both daring and very topical but that's part of the charm that is hard not to fall for of the girl who sang: "This is the closest thing to crazy I have ever been / Feeling twenty-two, acting seventeen."

But credit must be given to Melua, who wrote this song herself. She has written passionately about something she cares passionately about. The song builds from a slow and contemplative ballad to an almost rocky climax of energy, drums and screaming/crying out of the lyrics. The arrangement with Katie's band gives this song a quality you will not find in other songs.

Melua's latest album, Piece by Piece, and this single shows how far she has moved from Closest thing to Crazy, since outselling any other UK artist two years running and touring home and abroad. There's more confidence and maturity there and she really delivers the goods in this more edgy, powerful song.

This is a single well worth buying for the video alone. Katie sings, as always, with a lot of feeling. Her cover of Cry Baby Cry short but once heard is hard to forget.
