Annoyingly MORE realistic, 22 May 2006
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
In the previous versions of this game, you could get away with being a bit of a football numpty, and generally flying by the seat of your pants.
No more, I'm afraid. It's a harsh reality this time! Players get cheesed off more easily, you get the sack (even if you've won the last few games), and your "Board" stop you making bargin buys if they don't think it's right (well, okay, a bargin in your eyes might not actually be that good, considering the player is 36 and want's fat bonuses).
So, lots more fun to be had managing Yeovil and trying to work your way up through the leagues. For a laugh you can take your kids straight out the Youth Acadamy and put them in the first team and make them play 90 mins - the results are worth the risk for entertainment !!
So, much better, but the only downside is that there are soooo many options for training and tactics during a game. Sometimes you just get so peeved and setting them you put the default on (and enevitable get whipped!!). AND, you have to be interviewed for any jobs you apply for - and if they don't like your answer - they don't give you the flippin' job!!
Good points? Shouting abuse at players during the game - choosing a suitably inappropriate analysis for the team talk at the end of the game - and, of course, trying to buy some dodgy Bucharest player for peanuts (everyone want's to play for Dagenham & Redbridge, don't they?)

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I am new to the relm of championship manager as i hav previously bought lma manager and total club manager. The games layout is clear and good and so is the match engine. Also the teams i am west ham and i am in my 3rd season, in the first i came 7th in the premership and fa cup runner up, my second season 5th fa cup runner up again but winner of the uefa cup, then in my 3rd season i signed thierry henry on free transfer from arensenal and then went on to do the quadruple (premiership, uefa cup, fa cup and the leauge cup) Now i have just signed david trezuget and michael owen on free transfer. I advise anyone who wants a througly enjoyable manger game to run down to the shops and buy this.

Excellent game, possibly the best of its kind, 5 Jun 2007
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I am always sceptical about management games having played quite a few over the years. Often they can be too easy, sometimes too hard but this gets the balance right. I have found it very hard to win without being offputting, it took many attempts before I managed to win the Premiership in my first season in charge. I've got off to many good starts but often the opposition are unrelenting and I fade. I've won the Champions League and cups many more times, maybe the Champions League is too easy as I now consider not reaching the final a failure.
PROs
- don't need to read up how to play
- easy to use menus
- easy to compare players
- realistic transfer market, most players can be signed for a price
- not easy to win the league first time of asking or thereafter
- plenty of things to do throughout the season even when the transfer window is closed
- one or two too many loopholes making it easy if you know how
- some good stats available including manager profile
CONs
- it can be a tad hard to win the league even if your team is clearly the best
- you can lose games for no apparent reason
- strikers miss the target far too much
- can take a long time to complete a season
- big problem with training, do it yourself and players are unfit
- working through e-mails can take too long
- at times players take too long considering offers
And tips for people who want a little edge -
- go into manager options and set the assistant to take training or your players will be unfit and injured all season
- offer players to clubs rather than transfer list them, otherwise you will not sell players quickly. I also advise using some players in part exchange, certainly players not wanting to leave. For £2m + Cheyrou, Diao and Sissoko you can land Frank Lampard!
- 'Approach to sign' youth team players, some will be very good at clubs in Italy etc and if you sign youngsters worth £1m+ you can sell them for profit next season. You can sell or release existing unwanted players and improve your reserves so they win the reserves league more often than not. In your second season 'approach to sign' the more expensive youth players in England, this is such an easy way to raise funds and maintain a strong reserve team.
- instead of selling a player offer them on loan. Change the wages to be paid by the other club and raise the fee to near what you'd sell them for. eg offer Carragher to Premiership clubs and then change the terms to a £10m loan fee for a year long loan without paying his wages. Amazingly the clubs accept the terms and you get the money and the player back at the end of it!
- I personally recommend you buy players from Turkey - Tuncay Sanli, Fatih Tekke, Ibrahim Toraman and some others are exceptional value for money and as good as most of the players you'd buy for twice the price
Owzat XI
Pipolo (Roma)
Johnson (Chelsea)
Clichy (Arsenal)
Kompany (Anderlecht)
Toraman (Besiktas)
Ronaldo (Man Utd)
De Rossi (Roma)
Lampard (Chelsea)
Gerrard (Liverpool)
Sanli (Fenerbache)
Tekke (Trabzonspor)
Not necessarily the very best players but a good team for various reasons. They're good players, in the main young, good value, good stamina levels and you'll end up with takers if you want to sell anyone without losing money. If you're wondering why I sign Pipolo compare him with Reina and look at his age. You'd struggle to sign a team that good and that young for the same cost. I'd sign the likes of Tevez, Rooney, Robben and Essien if I could but have yet to sign any of them before I've been in charge a season. If you want Torres I've found you can get him for £18m, but he's rarely done enough for me to want him ahead of Tekke and Sanli.
All in all this is the best game of its kind I've played. If asked what I'd change about it, I probably wouldn't change anything.
