1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely terrible - DO NOT BUY, 15 May 2007
By M. Holman (Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
I was given this drive as a Christmas gift. It clearly states on the box that it is compatible with Mac OS 10 onwards. I am running Mac OS 10.4.8 on a MacBook 2.0GHz Core Duo. The drive seems to go into some sort of low power mode if it hasn't been accessed for about 10 minutes. Trying to access the disk from the computer does not wake it up. Pressing the power button on the drive has no effect. Attempting to unmount the drive fails to do anything. Copying something to the mounted drive does not wake it up and hangs the system. Unplugging the USB cable throws up errors about prematurely removing the hardware.

This drive is NOT compatible with Mac OS X despite being clearly marked as such.

Worse, having contacted Phillips customer care about this problem I received an absolutely useless reply from someone who clearly knew nothing about the product or computers. I replied to this email pointing out that it did not address any of the points in my original email. I never received a reply. I sent the drive back and I will not be buying from Philips again.

1.0 out of 5 stars MAC users watch out!, 26 Jun 2006
By P. Brown (UK) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
I bought one of these and had no problem setting it up with my mac....brilliant i thought, so started transferring all my files across onto it. I wanted to use it to free up space on my hard drive which is mainly taken up by music files so i transferred them all across and then redirected itunes to the external hard drive....easy!
HOWEVER, when i came to play the tracks from the external hardrive they would work for a while then if i left the room and came back to find the mac on sleep (which happens a lot cos they are so efficient) i would go to click another song and find that the drive had either crashed/turned itself off and wouldnt come back on! this then proceeded to mess up my mac as it would continue trying to load from it causing it to have to be turned off manually! damn hard drive!
I also sent the first one back faulty thinking it was just a bad drive but the exact same thing happened to the next one that arrived! WATCH OUT!

5.0 out of 5 stars PC Rules!, 16 Aug 2008
By M. A. Reeves - See all my reviews

Fit this piece of kit to a proper machine like a normal person and it works a treat! MAC owners should wake up and smell the coffee! MAC's are not compatible with anything, period! (only joking guys, I know how you love your MACS)

Once set up properly you simply push the blue button on the front of the drive and it does everything for you automatically. I also transfer copies of important documents and music files by hand as a kind of belt and braces but thats just me.

Bin the MAC and buy a DELL then the drive will work ;)
