Description
Though Megan Reilly's second album starts with the barest whisper of vocal and chiming guitar on the slow-burning "On aPlane", its pastel shades soon give way to the darker textures of "Nighttime", a slow, ominous track that conjures a gothic vision of the singer's Memphis roots, and the equally opaque "Tropic of Cancer". With impeccable taste, Reilly harvests "Wedding Song" from Bob Dylan's "Planet Waves", and "Little Girl in Bloom", a Phil Lynott gem from Thin Lizzy's early days, expertly emphasizing the former's joyous obsession and the latter's surprising sensitivity. Sue Garner's empathetic production provides a broad artistic palette, while Reilly's band skillfully buttresses every musical twist and turn.
