2.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia ain't what it used to be., 18 Sep 2009

Is there a worse Royal Rumble match in history than 1995's version? Possibly, but this is definately one of the front runners for that accolade. By my reckoning there are four people out of thirty who are "over" to any great degree (Shawn Michaels, Davey Boy Smith, Lex Luger and Owen Hart), leaving 26 hopeless wastes of space to fill in the rest of the match. No wonder that the WWF cut the entry times down to one every sixty seconds in a vain attempt to inject some action into the match.
It doesn't help that the under-card is miserable too. Razor Ramon vs Jeff Jarret is boring, but it's still ten times better than the Undertaker/IRS match that follows it. Diesel/Bret Hart would have been decent if not for the offensive non-finish, booked presumably beacuse they didn't want Bret Hart to lose and the only memorable thing about the Tag Team Title Tournament final is Bam Bam Bigelow's angle with NFL legend Lawrence Taylor.
So really, unless you have a perverse need to see the likes of Mantaur, Well Dunn, Kwang and Duke Drose on a PPV, you steer clear of the '95 Rumble.

1996's Rumble match can't fail to be better than the previous year's and it definately has more "moments" to remember. Granted it's still dangerously low on star power, but as the fans had been programmed to want Shawn Michaels to win it this year (as opposed to his heel win the year before) there is more excitement on show.
The problems on the undercard are pretty similar to 95's effort though. Razor Ramon has another blah match, the tag team title match pays more attention to ringside valet Sunny than it does to the actual participants and anyone who expects ANYTHING from an Ahmed Johnson match doesn't know anything about professional wrestling.
The main even is a solid one, and has it's fair share of excitement, but just like in 1995, weak booking means a non-finish that's an insult to the paying customer.
The WWE put on some good shows in both 1995 and 1996. These aren't really two of them. If 1996 was available on it's own these days you could almost get away with reccommending that one, but as it is with the price tag and 1995's version, you're better off steering well clear of this set.

2.0 out of 5 stars tagged classics , 6 Jan 2009

The royal rumble matches on both these releases are nigh on essential, yes you see some of the worst wrestlers to ever lace up boots, barry horowitz anyone!regardless the two rumble matches are filled with all that makes this unique event such a legendary one,the undercard on both are very average at times, even the so title matches, the undertaker vs bret in 1996 was a match that we all wanted to see but the WWF overcooked it and the match went on for what felt like weeks, pretty much everything else is just watchable,just.2.5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Royal Rumble 95 96, 30 April 2006
Not sure why it's so dear, but Taker vs Bret is a must see and the two rumbles, and that's about it from this Tagged Classics collection. Razor Ramon has the same match twice on both PPVs (different opponents, but u get the drift), and Taker vs IRS was a shambles. Still, I'm all for nostalgia, and I still enjoy it because, it's awesome - these were good PPVs back in the day and there's still bits and bobs I like from various parts of the events. Still, its one of the better TC so I advise buying it.
