Synopsis

A reclusive star who has a very strong vision for her career, PJ Harvey opens up on this tour documentary, allowing cameras to follow her as she promotes the UH HUH HER album in 2004. Captured travelling through Europe and the US with her four-piece band, Harvey is filmed both on and off-stage. The singer-songwriter highlights how the touring process affects her via some intimate video diaries, while also delivering some impressive shows in a variety of venues, from huge festivals to club appearances. A well-packaged documentary on the diminutive star, ON TOUR - PLEASE LEAVE QUIETLY also includes 16 songs that span Harvey's career, including 'Dress', 'Meet Ze Monsta' and 'Evol'.

5.0 out of 5 stars P J Harvey in my living room!!, 2 May 2006
By T. P. Fryer "tambelina" (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
At last, a chance to see P J Harvey in all her wonderful glory on DVD. The footage is from her 2004 Uh Huh Her tour (October to December).

Directed by her friend Maria Mochnacz, responsible for much of her photography throughout her career and the 1994 VHS "Reeling," the DVD has 16 full length live tracks. These are brilliantly filmed, with footage from different shows cleverly spliced into each track, her onstage persona leaps off the screen. Between tracks, not only is there background footage, but numerous clips from other performances which enhances the finished disc.

There are some parallels with Reeling, specifially in terms of the format (a mixture of live performance and backstage footage), so this DVD makes an excellent companion to it. When comparing the two however, her growing maturity and confidence as a highly innovative and exciting artist shines through and she comes across as a really down to earth, cool, unpretentious supremely talented woman.

There are too many highlights to mention, although my particular favourite tracks were My Beautiful Leah, Who The F**k, Dress and Catherine. The interview is worth buying the DVD for alone as she gives an open account of her creative process, a rare insight into her lyric writing and much hilarity designing the Uh Huh Her album artwork. You even get to see Ms. Mochnacz!

An absolute Joy to behold and must be bought!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impeccable ramshackleness!, 15 Jun 2006
If you are a PJ fan then this must be seen as an essential purchase. Coverage of her most recent 'Uh Huh Her' Tour highlights why this lady is one of Britain's most talented women in music. Opening up with the sublime 'Meet Ze Monsta' how could you not continue to be hooked to this DVD? There is also an intimate half hour interview/ Voxpops with PJ where she highlights her artistic side and shows how she picked the images for the 'Uh Huh Her' sleeve notes. There is also some interesting back stage footage. Take note... live version of 'Uh Huh Her' (not on original recording) is on this DVD. Worth the purchase price itself!!

To some up, If you are a PJ-ite then buy, buy, buy and enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 3 Aug 2006
This DVD is excellent. I am a fan of P. J. Harvey so I enjoyed the songs very much, and in general I thought the video footage was excellent too. If you like P. J. Harvey's music, I highly recommend this DVD.

In the interview (on the DVD), P. J. Harvey states that she did not want to produced a recording of one polished performance. She wanted it to be fragmented to capture the feeling of touring. Therefore, the DVD mixes concert footage (one track at a time, often with video from several sources for each track) with clips of non-concert footage.

So, in summary, this is not a recording of a concert, but it has lots of recordings from concerts that capture P. J. Harvey very well.
