4.0 out of 5 stars very neat, does what it says on the box, 26 Feb 2006
I am a non tecky female who is fed up dragging pc's , cables etc around and spending hours setting programmes up.

This little thing is light (it doesn't feel like a brick) and the black finish makes it look very neat and tidy.

This is a great little device and I found the phone (great handsfree speaker which I really wanted), wifi, calender, email, etc all very easy to set-up and install. My only tip would be to buy a 1Gig storage card to use for storing your music, pic's new add-in programmes this ensures the thing runs as quickly as possible. I actually do find it very quick and have not had one single 'crash' or 'stall' in over a month of use. My only gripe would be the camera, not very good but then I didn't buy it for the camera.

There are many add-ins to download which enhance it even more, usually free as a trial so not much money wasted unless you really want them.

Be aware it will only sync. with activesync v4.1 or higher but you can send most things from a pc via infrared or bluetooth without having to have active sync enabled. Just make sure both your wifi& bluetooth on your pc are enabled otherwise it won't work and the manual isn't very clear on this!

So all-in all I don't feel ripped off by the product. If like me you feel cheated the next 'best thing' has already been released (well it probably has been) I can see myself using this for at least 3 years or more before deciding to up grade.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, 7 Mar 2006
    By A Customer
Isn't it nice when something does exactly what it says in the tin? This comes so close.

Size wise it looks bigger in the pictures than it really is. It is the same height as my Nokia 6230i and thinner as well but it is the same width as the current Motorola flip phones. So it will fit in your pocket.

It connects in so many ways from GPRS to WiFi and Bluetooth.

    But it just works.

Out the box, put a SIM card in it, turn it on. Job done.

It is not the fastest PDA out there. Indeed it is slower than the previous model but not enough so to spoil it although every now and then it will stop for a fraction of a second to think.

Could it be better? Of course. Anything can be improved but for now, this is going to take some beating and meanwhile all the guys in the office keep playing with it and saying wow :-)

    5.0 out of 5 stars solid, 24 Jun 2006

    (REAL NAME)
I've always wanted PDAs to "work" - I've been through various palm devices, then onto windows mobile: but the first I ever owned that I could trust for work stuff was the i-mate jam. Earlier PDAs were glitchy, complicated to set up, and unreliable. Used the JAM every day (a lot) for all kinds of stuff. Eventually it was battered to death! Chose the JAMin as a replacement, and I'm delighted. One warning - update the ROM as soon as you get it (from the i-mate website). Then everything works, first time, every time. Allow the device to customise for your provider and (amazingly)the phone is active, email is set up in a moment, wifi works beautifully, bluetooth is happy, gprs behaves - and all the connectivity switches nicely depending on the environment. In a hotspot? Connect wifi and internet apps use it. Away from a hotspot? The device chooses GPRS! Plug the usb cable into a laptop, select usb modem and now the laptop can connect via gprs. In the past, I'd have had to scour web sites, this and that forum and so on to find that elusive configuration string or undocumented feature. Not this time. I once spent a whole weekend trying to get bluetooth on a toshiba device to perform properly. Not with the JAMin - the JAM brought reliability, the JAMin brings ease of configuration.

Bear in mind that the manual is the usual generic wm5 booklet and is pretty light with a dreadful index, so the easy and intuitive set up is very welcome. Imate support is much criticised, and that is probably fair. Fortunately you won't need it.

The device is small, robust, lightweight, has good battery life. It is a spot slower than the JAM (you'll read about this in reviews: different processor given features, form factor and power issues) and it is noticeable - but it doesn't detract from useability at all. The
