This is not the kind of album you'd stick on and sing along to whilst doing something else - it's more of a sit-down-and-listen affair. I'd heard some of the songs before buying the album and was pleasantly surprised to find out when reading the album sleeve that the whole thing was recorded live using home-made instruments - with no overdubs. It's a tricky thing to produce an album that could (at least in places) be deemed `ambient' without using modern technology (samplers, synths etc.), and even harder to produce an album in such a genuinely avant-garde way that actually doesn't sound pretentious at all, but this is what Zelienople have done with Ink.

Expect long droning ambience, sparse vocals and odd percussive sounds, with folky/bluesy guitar-based tunes washing in and out. Zelienople have a very distinctive and original sound, dark, edgy and often gentle. An album for people with a genuine interest in engaging with music, rather than just having it on it the background.
