Product Description

Description

FISHSCALE, the fifth solo album by Wu-Tang Clan's GhostfaceKillah, is a brilliantly cryptic album drenched in complex ghetto slang that reinforces the MC's status as a master wordsmith. Ghostface doesn't disappoint with lines like, "Ay-yoI should just bark on you/burn your car on you/'cause I'm too much man to leave a mark on you". His voice is mellifluous even when he's shouting, and the infectious beats (provided by Pete Rock and MF Doom) and rare soul and funk samples (a staple of any Ghostface venture at this point) provide theperfect backdrop for the unveiling of Ghost's enigmatic persona. FISHSCALE, packed with gritty tales of the inner-city coke trade, occasionally meanders into tired Tony Montana-posturing, yet occasionally hitting par for the course can be forgiven when the game is being played by a proven champ like Ghostface.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best work since Supreme Clientele, back on top form. 4 1/2 Stars, 12 April 2006
By J. Controls "DudeThatsMessedUp" (Ireland) - See all my reviews

Ghost has done it again, before I heard the album I was a bit sceptical about the fact that Rza had not contributed to the production side of it, but on the first listen all that went straight out the window. MF Doom, Madlib, J-Dilla (R.I.P.) and Pete Rock as well as others take the production seat this time round, and their beats suit ghost's style perfectly. What I like the most about the album is the fact that ghost has returned to his dark grimey sound, which I'm sure fans will agree, is when he sounds his best. All Wu members appear on the album, Raekwon, his original rhyming partner appears on some of the best tracks on the album. I don't want to give too much away so I'll leave it at that, so in short, if you're a fan of the real Wu-tang sound, you will love this album. Can't wait for Cuban Linx Part 2!

4.0 out of 5 stars GHOST IS BACK!, 5 April 2006
By Mr. P. Harrington "Godbody" (Newport, Wales) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Ghostface's fifth solo album hit the UK shelves on Monday. I always worry about Ghost's output since Bulletproof Wallets but The Pretty Toney album was generally good, but you can't knock Supreme Clientele or Ironman so I was expecting a great album.
The album kicks off on some funky sh1t and Ghost's trademark soul samples are evident on many tracks.
You got production by Pete Rock-who is pretty much flawless as usual but most interesting (at least for me) are the tracks produced by MF DOOM-these tunes are pretty trippy but quite a departure for Ghost and a worthy addition to his back catalogue.
There is a full range of tunes on this LP from emotional tear jerkers like "Whip You With A Strap", thugged out stuff like "Crack Spot" and "Be Easy", plenty of Raekwon but the album does lack a killer RZA beat like "Run" on the last album. The track featuring The Wu Tang Clan is weird too-the vocals are almost too low in the mix and it sounds like its being done live on the radio or something.
Overall this album is worth buying for Ghostface fans, and anyone who thinks they know about hip-hop cos they rock to 50 cent and eminem should check this out-Ghost is like chewing dynamite.
